Opening Day Set for Beacon Street Whole Foods

The new Whole Foods will serve Inman Square and is opening in the former site of a Johnnie's Foodmaster.

A new Whole Foods on Beacon Street, which has been under construction for months, will open on Sept. 4, according to an announcement from the supermarket chain.

The Whole Foods will open in the Inman Square building formerly occupied by Johnnie's Foodmaster, which announced in October, 2012, that it was closing.

Located at 45 Beacon St., on the Somerville side of Inman Square, the new Whole Foods will fit into about 24,780 square feet of space and employ around 100 full-time and part-time employees, the announcement says.

Among other things, it will have a burrito bar and a pizza oven.

The announcement says the store will hold its traditional "bread-breaking" ceremony at 9:45 a.m. on Sept. 4. The public is invited to attend.

The supermarket will be open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., the announcement says.

The Beacon Street store will be the 27th Whole Foods supermarket in Massachusetts, it says.

Somerville's other Johnnie's Foodmaster supermarket, on Alewife Brook Parkway in West Somerville, also closed and re-opened as a Stop & Shop in June.
