Somerville Makes WGBH's 'High School Quiz Show' For Third Straight Year

The Somerville community is invited to cheer on the high school's quiz team during a Jan. 25 live-audience taping.

The Somerville High School trivia team will compete in WGBH's "High School Quiz Show" for the third straight year, according to an email from the team's advisor, Ted Blake, a social studies teacher.

The accomplishment means that, for the third straight year, Somerville's trivia team is one of the top 16 in the state.

The team competed against more than 90 other public schools on Nov. 3 in the quiz show's "Super Sunday" event, where every team took a 100-question verbal trivia quiz. The top 16 teams were invited to participate in the televised quiz show.

This year, the team will face off in the first round against Nantucket High School during a live-audience taping on Jan. 25. The episode will air on March 8 at 6 p.m., and again on March 9 at 10 a.m.

Friends, family and members of the Somerville community are invited to attend the Jan. 25 taping to cheer on the Somerville team, though everyone in the audience will sign a form pledging to keep the results of the episode secret until March 8.

Anyone interested in reserving seats can do so at highschoolquizshow.org.

This year's team includes several Quiz Show veterans: Miles Bain and Celine Lessard-Brandt, seniors, and John Iacovino and Graham Lessard-Brandt, juniors. This is the third "Quiz Show" for Bain and Celine Lessard-Brandt. Iacovino has been on the team for the last two years, and Graham was an alternate for the last two years. This year's alternates are R.J. Bingham, a senior, and Julian Layton, a junior.
