Somerville LEGOLAND To Build Boston's Favorite Landmark

You, the public, can nominate and vote for Boston's favorite landmark, which will be rebuilt in LEGO and unveiled in May.

New England's first LEGOLAND Discovery Center, which is scheduled to open in Somerville in May, is planning to build a Boston MINILAND—a miniature Boston landscape, built of LEGOS, filled with the area's most popular sites.

What's more, LEGOLAND's marketing team wants the public to nominate and vote for Boston's favorite landmark, which will be rebuilt out of LEGOs and unveiled at the Discovery Center's grand opening.

You can nominate whatever you want, but some natural top contenders are

  • Fenway Park
  • The U.S.S. Constitution
  • Faneuil Hall
  • Boston Common
  • The State House
  • Bunker Hill Monument
  • Harvard Yard

A press release from LEGOLAND Discovery Center also named Somerville's Prospect Hill as a possibility. Prospect Hill was where George Washington, on Jan. 1, 1776, first raised the Grand Union Flag, which many consider the first American flag.

Voting takes place at the LEGOLAND Discovery Center Boston Facebook page. At the top of the page, just under the "like" button, you'll see a yellow button that says, "Help Lay the First LEGO Bricks." Click on that to nominate your favorite Boston landmark.

According to the press release, LEGOLAND is accepting nominations through Nov. 22. It will announce the top 10 landmarks on Dec. 2, and folks will then vote for their favorite. The winning landmark will be announced on Dec. 16.
