Nibble Cooking Class: Chilean Eats with Eduardo Lagos

The
Somerville Arts Council presents

Nibble Cooking Class: Chilean Eats

Eduardo Lagos hails from Santiago, Chile, and now cooks in Back Bay’s Grill 23. Eduardo will teach us to make three typical Chilean dishes and a drink: first up are empanadas, stuffed with braised beef and spices for the meat-eaters, and a mushroom-onion option for vegetarians. Then we will make ensalada chilena, a tomato-onion salad that is a typical Chilean accompaniment to empanadas and meat dishes. We will wash it all down with mote con huesillo, a summertime Chilean drink made with dried peaches (huesillo) and fresh-cooked husked wheat(mote). We’ll finish on a sweet note with Sopapillas, a fried pastry made with squash and commonly sold at street vendors. Eduardo is adding a special twist to the dessert by topping them with a honey-fig syrup. He first realized that he had cooking in his blood when he impressed his parents’ guests at the age of 10 with his rice. Since then, his cooking talents have taken him all over the world, from the Chilean coast to Munich, Germany, where he worked in an Italian website and learned to speak Italian. There aren’t many Chilean restaurants in Boston, so don’t miss your chance to eat & create authentic Chilean eats!

About the program
Nibble started with a blog about food and culture in Union Square. The blog
spawned a book, and now we are thrilled to be teaming up with Kitchen Inc.,
Union Square’s culinary incubator, for this cooking class series. Here is your
chance to take a culinary spin around the globe—by learning how to craft plantain canoes, roll spring rolls and concoct exotic dishes like Chiles en Nogada—without leaving Union Square! Our teachers are Union Square chefs and fabuolous cooks we’ve met through our Intercambio Language & Culture Exchange program.Beyond offering delicious cultural programming, we’re interested in helping propel the careers of local chefs and caterers and promoting the culinary riches of Union Square. Kitchen Inc.’s Joanna Ray will be assisting our instructors at all classes taking place at Kitchen, Inc.

Classes cost $40 and are limited to 10 people (so classes fill up quickly!).
