Journeys in Sound Presents "The Art of the Tarantella" followed by a set by Grand Fatilla

Come hear the story
behind the "tarantella", probably the most recognized form of
traditional Southern Italian music characterized by fast, upbeat tempos
and specifically named twirling dances that vary within individual
regions. The early roots of the music were said to be connected to the
bite of the tarantula spider to combat it's venom and to "sweat the
poison out". Two Italian born musicians, Fabio Pirozzolo (percussionist)
and Roberto Cassan (accordionist), who are quite versed in the form,
will deliver a workshop which will also include a dancer (s) and will
then be followed by a set by Grand Fatilla, the remarkably eclectic
world music ensemble that Fabio and Roberto are part of, along with Mike
Rivard (bass, sintir) and Matt Glover (mandolin).
