A Primer on Asiatic Lady's Slipper Orchids

Brian Leib, Plant Growth Facility Manager at Harvard University's Weld Hill Research Building at the Arnold Arboretum, is the featured speaker at the October meeting of the Somerville Garden Club. His talk will focus on the care and varieties of the Asiatic Lady's Slipper Orchid (Paphiopedium) and will touch on Phragmipedium (the genus of South American slippers) and Cypripedium (the slippers that grow in temperate regions around the world). When not providing eduction and research support to Harvard professors, students, affiliated researchers, and members of the community, Brian is busy providing diagnosis and treatment for plant pests of all types.
The Somerville Garden Club meets the second Wednesday of every month; meetings are free and the public is invited to attend. Every meeting includes club announcements, a horticultural question and answer segment, a lecture or demonstration, and a raffle of donated plants and garden items. Meetings are on the second floor, wheelchair accessible. Onsite parking is available, and the building is a short walk from the Davis Square T station. www.somervillegardenclub.org.
