ABOUT THE CURATOR:
Leika Akiyama is a multi media visual artist whose work has been exhibited in the New England area including the DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, Montserrat College of Art, Mills Gallery at the Boston Center for the Arts and the Nave Gallery in Somerville. Akiyama is a resident artist at the Boston Center for the Arts, and has also organized exhibitions such as JAPAN-O-RAMA at ArtSpace@16 and Wasabi at the Nave Gallery. Her encaustic paintings have been shown in group shows including Encaustic Painting–the Way of Wax, Winifsky Gallery, Salem State College, MA and Women and Wax, Higgins Art Gallery, Cape Cod Community College, MA.

She has studied painting at the Boston University School for the Arts and has spent time painting at the Vermont Studio Center  and in Trieste, Italy. She is currently working on the Celebrity Series project Play Me, I’m Yours. Hello Kitty is her personal sacred icon.
