Tips for Keeping Your Four-Legged Friend's Feet Happy

With the Winter coming under full swing, we are keeping our four legged companions warm in embarrassingly cute sweaters and jackets, but please don't forget their feet!

Many businesses do not use pet-safe salt to melt away ice and snow, which can be very harmful to the pads on your dog's feet. Dogs can develop chemical burns from the salt, which as you can imagine is very painful for them. While you can't control what type of salt is being used everywhere, you can help keep your pup's feet safe by using a product called Musher's Secret. It is 100% human grade wax and helps shield your dog's feet from hot pavement, sand, salt, and also helps prevent snowballing between the toes. This is a great alternative for dogs that will not tolerate boots, and keeps their feet safe and happy.

At home you can use a pet safe salt for melting, like Paw Safe or Paw Thaw, which will not harm your dog's feet. RiverDog carries both products, so stop by or email of you have any questions about these products.

Stay safe and warm, and have a Happy Holidays from RiverDog!
