Somerville Writer Selected as 'Artist of the Month'

A Somerville novelist, short story writer and essayist is the Somerville Arts Council's April Artist of the Month.

Ben Brooks, author of The Icebox, a novel, along with more than 80 short stories and essays, has been named Artist of the Month by the Somerville Arts Council.

Brooks' work has been published in the Sewanee Review, Virginia Quarterly Review, Notre Dame Review, The Florida Review, Chicago Review, American Short Fiction, Other Voices, Confrontation, Alaska Quarterly Review, and elsewhere, according to an email from the Somerville Arts Council.

His work has won the Nelson Algren Award and the O. Henry Prize, the announcement says.

Brooks has a bachelor's degree in English from Harvard and an M.F.A. in creative writing from the University of Iowa Writers Workshop, and he's currently a teacher and senior writer-in-residence at Emerson College, the announcement says.
