About Katie

Katie Lannigan is a Somerville transplant, by way of Maplewood, NJ. She came to the Boston area a little over four years ago to attend Emerson College. Katie graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Broadcast Journalism this May.

In her post graduation days, she spends her time writing for Patch, bargain shopping, trying out local restaurants, waiting tables, and volunteering with The Elizabeth Peabody House.

While at Emerson, Katie produced an hour-long public affairs radio program for WERS 88.9 FM, anchored a newscast for the Emerson Channel and was responsible for producing the political news segment on WEBN-TV.

She also spent a semester in Washington, D.C. interning for PBS' To The Contrary with Bonnie Erbe, a women's issues news and discussion program. While at To The Contrary, Katie was responsible for producing three segments; one about the struggle of female war veterans to find adequate healthcare and to treat PTSD, another about the effect of poverty on women and families, plus, a segment about women and mothers who support the legalization of marijuana. Another highlight of her time there was booking an interview with Carlotta Walls LaNier, the youngest member of the Little Rock Nine. Most recently, Katie interned with the local cable news channel, NECN.
