Somerville fell to Lincoln-Sudbury in the first round of the trivia show.
Somerville High School's trivia team fell to Lincoln-Sudbury Sunday in the first round of WGBH's "High School Quiz Show." It was the second year in a row Somerville made it onto the show. In 2012, Somerville also lost in the first round. Somerville was within striking distance of Lincoln-Sudbury going into the final "lightning round" of the show, but Lincoln-Sudbury surged ahead in the final round, thanks in large part to the rapid-fire play of Justin, who answered several questions in a row. In the end, Somerville walked away with 290 points, and Lincoln-Sudbury earned 500. The winning team will face off against Brookline on April 14. Even with Sunday's loss, the Somerville team may have a bright future. Only one of the players, Zoe …

It's the second year in a row the trivia team has made it onto the show, which features the 16 best public high school quiz teams in the state. Last year, Somerville was knocked out during the first round of competition by Rockport. This year the team faces Lincoln-Sudbury in the first round, and Theodore Blake, the team's advisor, thinks Somerville has a good chance of moving forward in this year's competition. The high school quiz team surged in the final round of play, but it wasn't enough to defeat a strong Rockport team.
The Somerville High School quiz team made a strong showing in its debut appearance on WGBH's High School Quiz Show, but it wasn't enough to fend off a solid Rockport team, which ultimately won the contest and will move onto the second round of the competition. Somerville High School was one of 16 teams from across the state to compete on the quiz show. The final score was 375 to 280, but Somerville made it interesting, narrowing its deficit to just 35 points in the final "lightning round" of questioning, where each question is worth 20 points. Had two questions broken in Somerville's direction, they would have taken the lead. In the end, however, Rockport remained in control for the whole match and will face off against Acton-Boxborough in…
