The winner is … J.P. Licks.
When Somerville Patch readers want a summer ice cream treat, they head to J.P. Licks in Davis Square. We took into consideration votes, comments and reviews, and in the end, J.P. Licks was the favorite ice cream parlor for Somerville Patch readers. The ice cream place, in the heart of Davis Square, offers homemade ice cream, frozen yogurt, frappes and other treats. It's one of 10 storefronts owned by the ice cream company throughout the Boston area. As one reviewer wrote on Yelp, "If you want good ice cream and you are in Davis Square, this is the place to go to. Great selection of flavors and other options if you are feeling something else." Louie's, on Lower Broadway in East Somerville, was a close runner up. Congratulations J.P. Licks.

Summer's on the way. Where do you get your ice cream fix?
Some like it in a cone, some like it in a cup. In Somerville you can ask for jimmies, which most likely is not a racist term, though some think it is. Of course, it's also a worrd for a certain type of prophylactic, so if you're anywhere else in the country, ask for sprinkles. Okay, now we've gotten off track. We're talking about ice cream. Summer is nearly here, which means strolling to the ice cream parlor for a shake, sundae, cone or cup of our favorite dessert. Where's your favorite ice cream parlor in Somerville? The are only a few choices. Check them out below, then vote in our poll, leave reviews and write comments. We take all of that into concern when determining the winner. If we've forgotten an ice cream place, tell us in the …

The winner is Market Basket.
Market Basket: On busy days there are traffic jams in the parking lot and lines through the aisles, and according to Patch readers, it's the best grocery or convenience store in Somerville. We took into consideration votes, comments and reviews to determine the winner. The Somerville Avenue supermarket, as Ellen McPherson commented on the site, "is in a class by itself. I have shopped in other [Market Baskets], but Somerville Avenue remains my favorite!" The market enjoys a somewhat legendary status in Somerville. The Boston Globe once published a column about it, titled, "Where shopping becomes a roller derby." As Betty G, another commenter, put it: "Market Basket is the real deal … when I retire, I want to work there as a bagger! Only 22…

If you had the opportunity to take vacation right here in Somerville, where would you go?
Vacations can be tiring. They often involve early morning travel, tedious planning, long hours in a car with bickering kids, heavy meals and non-stop exposure to friends and family who, as much as you love them, can get on your nerves. That's why people sometimes take mini vacations and stay at home—the so-called "staycation." During staycations you want to take it easy and slow down. You want to be lazy. If you were to take a staycation in Somerville, or if you've actually done so, where would you go? That's the subject of this week's question. We thought about places where people could relax, get away from the day-to-day grind and bring the kids. Take a look at the options below and then vote in our poll and leave comments and reviews. …

When you need to get away while staying home, in Somerville, where do you go?
Next week, we ask, "Where's the best place in Somerville for a staycation?" We're thinking of places where you can get away from the daily grind, relax, spend some quiet time and, maybe, take the kids. As you can imagine, there are a lot of options, and we're trying to narrow them down. If you think there's a great spot in Somerville for a staycation, send an email to chris.orchard@patch.com, and we'll update the list, which is already being developed, as soon as possible.
Highland Kitchen wins again.
When it comes to taking Mom out for brunch on Mother's Day, most Somerville Patch readers would take her to Highland Kitchen. In doing so, they're taking advantage of two things: Mother's Day is on a Sunday, and Highland Kitchen, which usually opens at 5 p.m., is open for brunch on Sundays. This is Highland Kitchen's second win. Previously, Patch readers said it was the best place in Somerville to get dinner. J.J., a reviewer on Somerville Patch, had this to say about Highland Kitchen: "Best burger in Somerville—if not Boston. And the mark and stormy is good (and strong) enough to make you forget that you've been waiting 40 minutes for a seat. Worth the wait and the hype." Perhaps that's not about brunch, but you get the point. Some …

We're trying to find the best spot in Somerville for Mother's Day brunch. If you have a favorite place, let us know.
On Monday we ask an important question: Where's the best place in Somerville to have Mother's Day brunch. Now, before any of you respond with, "whatever's cheapest and has the fastest table service," remember this: She's your mother; show a little gratitude. Choosing a Mother's Day brunch location can be difficult, and coming up with a list of such places is also difficult. If you have a favorite spot in Somerville, nominate it by sending an email to chris.orchard@patch.com. Voting begins on Monday morning, and we also encourage you to leave reviews and write comments.
