Local PTA To Be Honored at 'YUM: A Taste of Immigrant City'

The first ever Intercultural City Award will be handed out at the April 25 culinary event.

The East Somerville Community School PTA will receive the first annual Intercultural City Award, which will be given by The Welcome Project at its April 25 culinary event, YUM: A Taste of Immigrant City. The event features 11 restaurants representing Somerville's array of global cuisine and immigrant culture. It benefits The Welcome Project, a Somerville immigrant advocacy group. According to an announcement from The Welcome Project, the group is honoring the East Somerville Community School PTA for its effort to engage parents in East Somerville, where the majority of parents are immigrants. 'YUM: A Taste of Immigrant City' Tickets, Discount Card on Sale

YUM lets you sample cuisine from around the world to support immigrants here in Somerville.

This year's "YUM: A Taste of Immigrant City," takes place April 25 at  The Center for Arts at the Armory, and tickets are now available. The food event celebrates the culinary, and overall, diversity of Somerville, and it benefits The Welcome Project, a Somerville immigrant advocacy group. "YUM: A Taste of Immigrant City," features tastings from several of Somerville's ethnic restaurants, representing cuisine from places like Ethiopia, Nepal, Brazil, Turkey, Mexico, Italy, Portugal and elsewhere. In addition to the tasting event, residents can also purchase the YUM card. It costs $10 and provides cardholders with a 10 percent discount at participating restaurants. 'YUM: A Taste of Immigrant City' Somerville Food Event on April 25

Somerville's wide array of ethnic cuisine will be on offer at the Armory.

Somerville is home to lots of exotic cuisine: Nepali, Ethiopian, Turkish, Brazilian, Mexican, Thai, Indian ... the list goes on. "YUM: A Taste of Immigrant City" celebrates Somerville's culinary diversity, letting people sample food from ten of Somerville's ethnic food restaurants. The event takes place April 25 at The Center for Arts at the Armory, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. In an announcement about the culinary event, Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone said, "One of the most enjoyable features of Somerville life is our rich cultural diversity.
