This Weekend in Somerville: Union Square Farmers Market, Carnaval, Davis Flea

It's summer! Lots of open-air markets begin the season this weekend. A look at things to do in Somerville this weekend.

Union Square Farmers Market Yes, it's finally here. The Union Square Farmers Market—everyone's favorite reason to wait in line at the Bank of America ATM for 15 minutes—opens for the season this Saturday. It runs through Nov. 23. The market features fresh produce, meats, fish, local wines and other tasty stuff. Often there's live music. It's from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and it accepts SNAP EBT cards, credit and debit cards, and senior farmers market coupons, so, actually, there's really no reason to wait in line at the ATM. Relish: Center for Urban Agriculture Speaking of the farmers market, which features locally grown food, urban agriculture is taking off in Somerville. This Weekend in Somerville: PorchFest, Doggie Spring Fling, ASSEMBLED and More

There's a ton happening in Somerville this weekend. Don't miss out.

PorchFest The third annual PorchFest takes place Saturday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Over 100 bands will be playing on porches throughout the city. Check out this map to plan your PorchFest itinerary.  Somerville Dog Spring Fling Som|dog, Somerville's dog group, is hosting the first ever Spring Fling on Sunday. The party will include dog-related activities, vendors, a dog treat bake-off contest, a doggie fashion show, live music, a "kiddie corner" with crafts and face painting, and consultations with local trainers and behaviorists. Also, there will be a beer garden with craft beer. This Weekend in Somerville: Historical Bike Tour and a Silent Film

Silent Film Series: The Thief of Bagdad Somerville Theatre has a lineup of silent films that will screen throughout the summer. On Sunday, watch Douglass Fairbanks in 1924's "The Thief of Bagdad."  M.O.M.'s RUN The annual Mother's Day run benefits the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and this year the event is honoring Sean Collier, the MIT police officer and Somerville resident who was killed after the Boston Marathon bombings. It starts at 10 a.m. Sunday in Davis Square. An after-run party takes place at Redbones. Historic-Somerville Bike Tour The theme of this year's bike tour is "Industrial Somerville, Past and Present." Somerville Spring Cleanup Saturday is Somerville Spring Cleanup day. There are cleanup events taking place throughout the city, including at the Healey School, Blessing of the Bay Boathouse and South Street Farm. Mystic River Cleanup The Mystic River Watershed Association is planning an Earth Day Mystic River cleanup in Assembly Square on Saturday. Volunteers can show up from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and come and go as they like. It's easy to stop by, help out for an hour, then head out. Boston Breakers Opening Day The Boston Breakers kick off their 2013 season Sunday at Dilboy Stadium with a game against the Washington Spirit. The top women's soccer team is in a new league and has players from the U.S. Olympic and national teams, along with top players from Mexico and Canada. Comedian Jim Norton Jim Norton, a comedian who's performed on Leno, Letterman, Comedy Central and HBO, among other places, is at the Somerville Theatre Friday. He's doing two shows, one at 7 p.m., the other at 9:30 p.m. "Love Letters :: Messages Received" by Marissa Falco The artist uses "fabric and thread to craft three-dimensional, functional objects that are both highly relatable and intimately personal."
