The chef behind Cambridge's Craigie on Main talked briefly about his new project in Somerville on WBUR's Radio Boston.
"There was another type of food that I always dreamed of cooking," Tony Maws, chef of Cambridge's Craigie on Main, said on WBUR's Radio Boston Tuesday afternoon. "Craigie on Main food is one of the themes that I have, and the other theme is the more rustic food that I cook for my family on Monday nights. It's a little more family style, and still great ingredients," the chef said. That's what restaurant fans can expect when Maws opens his new restaurant in the Somerville space formerly occupied by Kirkland Cafe, which closed in 2007. If you missed it, WBUR's 'Radio Boston' did a segment Monday titled "Mass. Democracy: A One-Party System?" The segment explored the political reality in Massachusetts that Democrats dominate the state legislature and most representatives run for office unopposed. The radio program focused on the race for the 26th Middlesex District, which encompasses East Somerville and East Cambridge. It's one of the races in Massachusetts that does have challengers. Rep. Timothy Toomey, the incumbent, was originally supposed to be on the show, but he had a last-minute legislative commitment, according to "Radio Boston." WBUR's "Radio Boston is expected to discuss Monday afternoon the race for state representative in East Somerville and East Cambridge. The segment was not promoted on the "Radio Boston" website Monday morning, but a campaign worker for State Rep. Timothy Toomey, who currently holds the seat in question, said the radio program was planning the segment. A member of staff at "Radio Boston" also said the segment was scheduled to air on Monday's show. The radio program took a look at Somerville’s efforts to increase physical activity and improve nutrition among its residents.
WBUR’s “Here and Now” radio program took a look Monday at Somerville's efforts to cut down on obesity and live healthier lifestyles. The show’s host, Robin Young, pointed to the overall transformation that has occurred in Somerville over the past few decades, and said, “Somerville residents are trying to get healthier.” The radio segment focused on the city’s Shape Up Somerville program, which encourages residents to be more active and eat healthier foods. Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone was Young’s guest. He said that when he became mayor in 2004, Tufts University showed him data that 40 percent of Somerville’s kids were obese or at risk of becoming obese.
