Man Grabs Cabbie's Neck, Demands Cash, Says Police Report

A 51-year-old Medford man was unsuccessful in his robbery attempt, according to a police report.

A Medford man who was a passenger in a Green Cab tried to rob the cab driver by grabbing his neck and demanding cash, according to a Somerville police report. According to the report, the cab picked up Peter McCafferty, 51, of 10 Windsor Rd., Medford, near Franklin and Pearl streets in Somerville shortly before 7 a.m. on Sunday. On the ride to Medford, McCafferty allegedly asked the cab driver, "So did you make a lot of money today?" and the driver said he hadn't, the report says. Then, at the intersection of Medford Street and Broadway, McCafferty allegedly reached around the seat, grabbed the driver's neck and demanded cash, according to the report. Victim and Police Find Stolen iPhone Using Apple's 'MobileMe,' Says Report

In Davis Square, a Somerville man allegedly ripped a woman's iPhone from her hands, then took off running. The victim used "MobileMe" tracking software to help police find the phone, according to a police report.

After a woman had her iPhone stolen from her—snatched from her hands in Davis Square—she used some quick thinking to help police track down the alleged robber, according to details from a police report. When police officers met the 24-year-old robbery victim, she asked to use an officer's computer, the police report says. (Police cruisers are equipped with computers.) Quickly logging into "MobileMe," which has a "find my iPhone" service, the victim was able to determine her phone, and presumably the man who allegedly stole it, was about half a mile away, moving toward Porter Square, according to the report.
