Police Respond to Spike in Home Break-Ins in Eastern Somerville

Police have recovered some of the property after arrests and the execution of a search warrant in Charlestown.

The eastern part of Somerville has seen a series of home break-ins in recent weeks, and Somerville police have made some arrests they believe may be connected to the break-ins. According to information provided by the Somerville Police Department, there were 15 breaking-and-entering reports in the eastern part of the city from Aug. 13 to Aug. 20. This includes areas in East Somerville, around Union Square, near the Cambridge border around Inman Square and into the central part of the city. Police reports say there's been a "surge" and "spike" in break-ins in recent weeks. Police Arrest Man and Woman for Stealing Christmas Packages

Police say they found over 100 packages in the home of two Somerville residents. Detectives were working hard Tuesday night to log the allegedly stolen packages so victims could have them in time for Christmas.

Police arrested a Somerville man and woman Tuesday afternoon and charged them with receiving stolen property, according to an announcement sent by the Somerville Police Department. The stolen property in question: Christmas packages. According to the announcement, Somerville police have been working with other police departments in the Greater Boston area to investigate multiple reports of thieves stealing packages from porches and doorways. The announcement notes the spike in package deliveries due to the holidays. On Tuesday, Somerville police acted on information from the Medford Police Department and stopped a vehicle at McGrath Highway and Pearl Street that matched the description of a car suspected of being involved with package …
