Curtatone topped a field of six Democratic contenders in a tight primary race for the South Middlesex register of deeds. No Republicans ran.
With 382 out of 385 precincts reporting, it appeard that Maria Curtatone, a lawyer from Somerville, won Thursday's Democratic primary for register of deeds in Middlesex County's southern district. At 12:30 a.m. Sept. 7, according to unofficial results compiled from Boston.com and the Waltham election office, Maria Curtatone received 14,524 votes. Her closest competitor, Maryann Heuston, also from Somerville, received 12,971 votes. With a 1,553 vote lead for Curtatone as of 12:30 a.m., it did not appear that results from the remaining three precincts in Townsend would alter the outcome of the primary. Kennedy defeated Francis Flaherty and will move onto the November election unopposed.
Terrence Kennedy, a Democrat, won the Governor's Council primary for the 6th district, which includes Somerville, Cambridge, Boston and 17 other communities in Eastern Massachusetts. He defeated Francis Flaherty Thursday night by a large margin. With 277 out of 280 precincts reporting, here are the unofficial results, according to Boston.com. With no Republican is seeking the office, Kennedy will be unopposed in November's general election.
Provost, the incumbent state representative, defeated challenger Harry Kortikere.
Somerville State Rep. Denise Provost, the incumbent state representative for the 27th Middlesex district, deafeated challenger Harry Kortikere in Thursday's primary, according to Boston.com. With 10 of the 11 precincts in the 27th Middlesex district reporting, Provost was leading Kortikere 3,366 votes to 502, enough to clinch the primary victory, Boston.com reports. Provost, a Democrat, has served as a state representative since 2006. The 27th Middlesex district sits entirely in Somerville and encompasses most of Davis Square, much of Union Square, Spring Hill, Prospect Hill and Powderhouse Square. Provost does not face a Republican challenger in November's general election.
