Brothers' Fight Leads to Stabbing, Assault to Murder Charge

An altercation between two brothers inside a Pearl Street home led to an alleged stabbing with a kitchen knife.

A Somerville man allegedly stabbed his brother with a kitchen knife after an altercation between the two at a Pearl Street home, leading to his arrest on a charge of armed assault to murder. The victim sustained severe lacerations and was treated for non-life threatening injuries, according to the police report. Police responded on Saturday, Aug. 25 around 3 p.m. to Cambridge City Hospital for a report of a stabbing, where the victim told a detective that 40 minutes earlier, he had gone to his former home on Pearl Street with his girlfriend, where his brother still lived, to pick up some clothes he left behind before he had moved to Lynn. Somerville Police Provide Information About Death of Homeless Man

A 52-year-old man died while in the custody of Somerville police on Monday. Police have released some information about the incident.

Somerville police have provided some information about the death of a 52-year-old homeless man, William Reardon, who died in a cell at the police station early Monday morning. Deputy Chief Paul Upton of the Somerville Police Department said the department did not want to speak publically about the incident until after they had spoken with Reardon's family. Somerville Auxiliary Police Worked Boston Marathon

Hopkinton requested assistance from Somerville Auxiliary Police to assist with security during last week's Boston Marathon.

Traffic Violating Somerville Bicyclists Get Mostly Verbal Warnings

Police officers also wrote some citations in the first day of their campaign to enforce traffic laws with bicycle riders.

Bicyclists who got pulled over by cops in Union Square Wednesday mostly received verbal warnings, though a few received written warnings, according to Paul Upton, deputy chief of the Somerville Police Department. "I'm pretty sure there wasn't a $20 citation so far," he said, speaking Thursday afternoon. Upton was talking about a new campaign by the Somerville Police Department to enforce traffic laws with bicyclists. "This is an accident reduction effort," Upton said. He said traffic enforcement officers are doing "what they need to do to make the city a little safer." Somerville Detectives Make Crack and Heroin Arrests

A crack cocaine arrest near Beacon Street and heroin arrests in East Somerville.

Somerville narcotics officers made three drug arrests last week, booking an Everett man accused of selling crack cocaine near Beacon Street and two people who were charged with possessing heroin in East Somerville On April 5, undercover detectives arrested Omar Legall, 29, of Everett, and charged him with possessing drugs with an intent to distribute them. According to a police report, detectives spotted Legall on Park Street at about 2:35 p.m. Legall was wanted on warrants for drug possession and trespassing, and detectives stopped him on Ivaloo Street, which is near Beacon Street. When police searched Legall, they found clear plastic bags with "cuts and pull marks" on them and a small pocket knife, according to the report. They …

'Guns n Hoses' Police vs. Fire Hockey Game on March 30

The hockey game pits the fire department against the police department, and proceeds benefit Somerville Youth Hockey.

Editor's note: The following is from the city of Somerville: The annual “Guns N’ Hoses” hockey game, between the Somerville Police Department and the Somerville Fire Department, will be held this year on Friday. March 30th at 7:00 p.m. at the Veteran’s Memorial Rink on Somerville Avenue.  In its 10th year, the theme is “The Youth of Somerville,” and, fittingly, proceeds from the game will benefit the Somerville Youth Hockey Association.  Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone will ceremonially drop the puck at the start of the game, and there will be a gathering for all interested attendees immediately following the game at the Dante Club on Craigie Street. Police Identify Alleged Moped Bank Robber

John Mellone, of Somerville, is being held on $3,500 bail.

Note: The following was provided by the Malden Polce Department:  At approximately 2:50 p.m. Wednesday, officers of the Malden Police Department responded to a report of a bank robbery at the US Alliance Credit Union 1032 Eastern Avenue. On arrival at the scene, it was learned that a white male entered the bank, showed a note to the teller and fled with an undetermined amount of cash. According to witnesses, the perpetrator fled on a motor scooter and was wearing a black and white motorcycle helmet. Officer Griffith, who was on patrol in the area, remembered seeing a motor scooter operating in the area approximately 15 minutes prior to the robbery. Det. @ Amanda, don't be totally calmed by the article, It is a bit of a white-wash about rape in Somerville. Last year, I was getting robo-calls from the City about some guy who was "indecently assaulting" women near Porter Square. I guess this assailant did not succeed in raping, technically, but he was still attacking. Women in Somerville need to keep their wits about them when walking alone. Phones…   more ›
