The alleged shooter's lawyer says the defendant and his family had been threatened by tenants who shared their Broadway home.
Santano Dessin, the Somerville man accused of shooting a 28-year-old in the neck Sunday night, was defending his family's home from tenants with possible gang affiliations, according to Dessin's lawyer, who spoke Tuesday morning at Dessin's arraignment. Dessin, 33, has been charged with armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery causing serious bodily injury and discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling. The shooting took place at around 11:30 p.m. after Dessin got into a verbal argument with the victim, according to the Middlesex District Attorney's office. The shooting took place in East Somerville shortly before midnight, according to reports.
A late-night shooting at 196 Broadway in East Somerville sent a victim to the hospital in serious condition, according to reports. Somerville Police Monday morning confirmed a shooting took place but did not immediately provide information about the incident. Somerville Patch was waiting to hear back from a police spokesperson. How a traffic accident pointed detectives to information about an early morning shooting that had occurred 10 days earlier in the heart of Somerville.
When a police officer responded to a traffic accident on Sept. 9 and noticed that one of the involved cars—a Dodge Caravan—had several bullet holes in it, detectives were able to piece together bits of information that lead to the arrest, Friday, of a Somerville man accused of shooting at the minivan's driver. It all started 10 days before the accident. A 16-year-old girl from Maine was shot in the arm.
State police are casting a wide net and asking if anyone has information about a July 1 road rage shooting that injured a 16-year-old girl. The shooting happened on Route 495 after the girl's family—they're from Maine—was cut off by a white car, thought to be a Honda Accord. A second man arrested in connection to the shooting is identified as Gerry Girauld, according to a Somerville police report. The report says a woman found the victim "lying in a pool of blood."
A police report from the Somerville Police Department includes some new details about an Oct. 1 shooting that sent a 35-year-old man to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The police report identifies Gerry Girauld, 26, of 28 Temple St., Somerville, as being arrested in connection to the shooting. Girauld was not named in a press release issued by Somerville police on Oct. 5. Two Chelsea men are being charged in a shooting that sent a man to the hospital.
Fonge Pierre, 32, of Chelsea and another Chelsea man have been arrested in connection to a Saturday shooting that sent a 35-year-old man to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The shooting took place at about 1:30 a.m. at 10 Illinois Ave. in East Somerville. According to a news release from the Somerville Police Department, Somerville police worked with the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force, State Police and Chelsea Police to identify suspects in the wake of the shooting. Police are searching for a suspect in a Saturday-morning shooting that sent a victim to the hospital with injuries that are not life threatening.
The following information was provided by the Somerville Police Department: Somerville Police Investigate Shooting Incident At about 1:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, Somerville Police responded to 10 Illinois Avenue for a report of gunshots. Upon the arrival of police, they discovered a 35 year old male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds on the front porch. The victim was transported to an area hospital where his wounds were determined to be non-life threatening. Police also discovered that a parked vehicle that had also been struck by a single gunshot. More than two years after Keith McCoy, 28, of Somerville was shot to death at the Mystic Housing Development, his accused murderer pleaded guilty Thursday in Middlesex Superior Court and was sentenced to life in prison. According to the following statement issued Thursday by Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone: Marcus Amos, 23, of Roslindale, pled guilty to second degree murder, possession of a firearm without a license, and possession of ammunition.
