Video Tour of Maxwell's Green on 'Greater Somerville'

In a special episode of "Greater Somerville," Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone, host Joe Lynch and representatives of Maxwell's Green take a tour of the real estate development.

Maxwell's Green is a large new residential development in the heart of Somerville, and the subject of a special episode of SCATV's "Greater Somerville" that aired this week. Here's what "Greater Somerville" says about the episode: "On this special episode of Greater Somerville, Mayor Joe Curtatone and host Joe Lynch join the developers of Somerville's newest transit oriented development, Maxwell's Green, for a tour.  Adjacent to the future extension of the Community Path and the Green Line's Lowell St. T stop, this 5 acre site has been transformed into Somerville's newest residential community within our borders." Learn Super-8 Filmmaking with SCATV

Ed. note: The following was sent by SCATV: Kicking it old school, Somerville Community Access Television (SCATV) is offering a summertime Super-8 filmmaking workshop. Get a solid working knowledge of this approachable film medium. Instructor Tara Merenda Nelson is a working artist with an impressive resume of screenings all over the world, including MoMA (NYC), The New York Film Festival, Boston's ICA and the Andy Warhol Museum. While production at SCATV centers on video, no video camera can truly replicate the unique look of film and this course will cover the basics of working with this special format. Somerville Community Access Television Wins National Awards

SCATV received awards for overall excellence and for best "democracy in action" production.

Somerville Community Access Television, known as SCATV, received two national awards from the Alliance for Community Media, according to an announcement from SCATV and the Alliance's website. Competing against community access broadcasters from around the country, the Somerville cable station received the Overall Excellence in Public Access Award for a station its size (with a budget between $350,000 and $600,000.) This is the seventh time SCATV has won the award since 2005, according to the announcement. It recognizes the diversity and quality of SCATV's programming. Alderman Lafuente talks Winter Hill Revitalization on 'Greater Somerville'

The Ward 4 alderman discussed efforts to spruce up Broadway, the status of the vacant Star Market site and other neighborhood issues.

Ward 4 Alderman Tony Lafuente, now five months into his first term on the Somerville Board of Aldermen, would like to form a Winter Hill business association and give the Winter Hill section of Broadway a facelift, he said in an appearance on SCATV's "Greater Somerville." Lafuente appeared on the Somerville current affairs TV show Tuesday. You can watch the episode here. Summer Jobs: SCATV Hiring Somerville Teens for TV Production Project

The Summer Video Green Team will produce documentaries about water issues in and around Somerville.

Editor's note: the following was provided by SCATV: SCATV Summer Video Green Teem Hiring Teens SCATV’s Next Generation Producers, in collaboration with Groundwork Somerville, is hiring up to 8 high school age youth from Somerville to learn video production skills and produce documentary-style video projects about clean water in Somerville. The group will be led by experienced filmmaker, Gordon Nelson. Each student will receive a stipend of $8/hour for their work. The teens, ages 14 to 18, will work together to learn about where Somerville gets its drinking water, where rain water goes, how the Mystic River affects Somerville, and the effects of climate change on water.
