You'll want to stick around Somerville this summer, according to the the SCATV show.
"Greater Somerville" hosts KyAnn Anderson and Joe Lynch recently discussed summer events in Somerville. "Stay here for the summer and enjoy everything we have to offer," said Lynch. During the show, they offer some ideas about things to do in and around the city this summer, including events at Somerville's parks and trips to the Boston Harbor Islands. The oldest community access center in the state celebrates a milestone.
Somerville Community Access Television, SCATV, celebrates its 30th anniversary Thursday with a party. Founded in 1983, SCATV is the oldest community access center in Massachusetts and served as a model for access stations across the country, according to SCATV's website. The television station produces public affairs shows, public service announcements, political forums and arts programs, among other things. It also operates Boston Free Radio. Thursday's party takes place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the SCATV building, 90 Union Square. Everyone who's participated in SCATV projects over the past 30 years is invited.

Jessie Banhazl of Green City Growers and Luisa Oliveira, a senior planner with the city of Somerville, discuss the city's push to encourage urban agriculture.
As you may know, the city of Somerville recently enacted urban agriculture laws to encourage urban farming in the city. It's also launched the Urban Agriculture Ambassador Program to teach people how to grow food. One of Somerville's experts on the matter, Jessie Banhazl of Green City Growers, recently spoke to KyAnn Anderson on SCATV's "Greater Somerville" about these efforts. Lilly Testa, winner of Somerville's first ever "Reach for the Stars" talent show held in the fall, will sing tonight on this special holiday edition of "Greater Somerville, Testa, a native New Yorker, won the competition, besting dozens of other entrants. For those of you following the race for state representative in the 26th Middlesex District, which encompasses East Somerville and East Cambridge, you might want to take a look at some recent media coverage. First, Rep. Tim Toomey was on SCATV's "Greater Somerville" and spoke with host Joe Lynch about the campaign, his challengers and the district. You can watch the episode here. The "Ask Anything About Ballot Question 4" town hall meeting will be videotaped at SCATV Monday night. Be part of the studio audience.
SCATV is taping a special show Monday night about Somerville's Question 4, which asks voters whether or not Somerville should adopt the Community Preservation Act. Learn more about Question 4 here. The show will be in the form of a town hall meeting, according to an announcement from SCATV, and members of the public can join the studio audience. There will be five guest panelists, and members of the studio audience can ask questions. Here's who will be on the panel: Joe Lynch, host of "Greater Somerville," will moderate the show, and it will be rebroadcast on SCATV regularly until Nov. 6. The first debate will be held Oct. 16 at SCATV in Somerville, the second will be on Oct. 30 in Cambridge.
It looks like the three candiates in the race for state representative in the 26th Middlesex District, which encompasses East Cambridge and East Somerville, have agreed on details for two debate that will be held in October. Incumbent State Rep. Timothy Toomey, a Democrat, and his challengers, Republican Thomas Vasconcelos and Independent Mike Connolly, had previously argued about when, where and how debates would take place. The three campaigns had agreed to announce the debates in a joint statement, which caused a further argument when Connolly released a debate schedule Toomey hadn't agreed to.
