Robert Invernizzi, Korean War Vet, MIT Draftsman, Father of Seven, Passes Away

Somerville named the corner of Gussie Terrace and Porter Street after Invernizzi in October. He was 84 when he passed away.

Robert E. Invernizzi, who saw action in the Pacific in the years immediately following World War II—he enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 in September of 1945—and who lost an eye in the Korean War, passed away on Dec. 4 at the age of 84, according to an email from his family and Rogers Funeral Home. In October, Somerville dedicated the corner of Gussie Terrace and Porter Street as Radarman Second Class Robert E. Invernizzi Square. He was a lifelong Somerville resident and one of the city's most decorated veterans. After the wars, Invernizzi, a draftsman, helped design guidance systems at MIT and aircraft enigines at General Electric.
