Somerville's M.O.M.'s Run to Remember Sean Collier

The fallen MIT police officer's sister will run in the annual Mother's Day race, which benefits cancer research.

The 11th annual M.O.M.'s Run, which take's place May 12, will honor Sean Collier, the MIT police officer and Somerville resident who was shot after the Boston Marathon bombings. Collier's sister will participate in the run, according to the event's website, and she will wear bib number 179, Collier's badge number. The annual M.O.M.'s Run—M.O.M. is short for Mary O'Brien Memorial—takes place every Mother's Day and raises money for the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The run's website says of Collier, "We are proud to have had his support and participation in our effort to fight cancer. We will always remember Sean and be thankful to him for the service he has given our city." …

Road Race For Kids and Adults on April 7

The fourth annual Shape Up Somerville road race begins at 10:30 a.m. outside the high school.

The fourth annual Shape Up Somerville road race is scheduled to take place April 7, according to an announcement from the city. The race kicks off at 10:30 a.m. with a 1-mile children's fun run. A 2.7 mile walk also begins at that time, and an adult recreational road race starts at 11 a.m., the announcement says. The race begins and ends at the Somerville High School Concourse, and the price—$5 for kids and $20 for adults—gets participants a T-shirt, refreshments, activities and music. Top male and female finishers will receive awards.  Afterward there will be a post-race celebration at Casey's on East Broadway, the announcement says. Yay.....another road race. Another Sunday morning unable to get out of home, to church, the grocery store, etc. And once again involving both Broadway and Highland Ave., so you can't cross the city either way. Maybe my church could hold services on Saturday for the next 6 months.   more ›

  The 16th annual Gobble Gobble Gobble Road Race takes place Thanksgiving morning. The race benefits Project Soup, which feeds the hungry, and Somerville Track PAC, which provides college scholarships to Somerville students. Shape Up Somerville Family Road Race Sunday Morning

The family friendly race and morning of events starts at 10:30 a.m. on the concourse outside Somerville High School.

The following is from the city of Somerville: Race includes children’s “Fun Run,” adult race & walk, refreshments, music, activities for kids; BBQ to be held following races at VFW Post #19  SOMERVILLE – Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone announced that the City’s annual Shape Up Somerville / Somerville Recreation Road Race will be held on Saturday, April 15th, starting and ending at the Somerville High School concourse, 93 Highland Avenue.  The day will begin with a 1-mile children’s “Fun Run” at 10:30 a.m., followed by a 2.7-mile walk at 10:30 a.m. and a 2.7-mile adult race at 11:00 a.m.  Registration is open to all community members at a price of $5 for youth under age 10 and $20 for adults.  Price includes a commemorative t-shirt, refreshments …
