Somerville Sees Strong Home Sales in April
Also, sale prices continued to rise compared to 2012.
After a slow winter, Somerville saw a surge in home sales in April. According to figures from The Warren Group, publisher of Banker & Tradesman, 45 condos and single-family homes sold in Somerville in April, compared to 31 in April of 2012. That's a 45 percent increase. On the year, however, home sales are slightly down in Somerville compared to 2012. in 2013, 101 condos and single-family homes sold through April, compared to 116 during the same period in 2012. Sale prices were up, however. Through April, the median sale price of a single-family home in Somerville was $529,500 in 2013, compared to $360,000 during the same period in 2012. Somerville Startup Takes Aim at Apartment Hunting, Real Estate Agents
A new website would facilitate apartment transfers among friends and acquaintances.
A Somerville startup wants to help people find apartments by cutting real estate agents out of the equation. The Boston Herald has a story about JumpShell, which plans to harness the power of social media to match apartment hunters with soon-to-be vacant apartments. One of the company's founders is a former real estate agent who saw his old colleagues use "bait-and-switch" tactics to pressure apartment hunters, according to the Herald. As the Herald reports, such agents would post photos of desirable apartments on Craigslist, even though the apartments had already been rented.
