Judge Impounds Details in Howie Winter Case

Lawyers for Winter and his codefendant said the prosecution's statement of facts and allegations is "one-sided," according to Bostonherald.com.

On Tuesday, Middlesex Superior Court Judge Kathe Tuttman impounded, at least temporarily, the prosecution's statement of facts and allegations against former Winter Hill Gang boss Howard "Howie" Winter, according to Bostonherald.com. Winter, 83, of Millbury, and a codefendant, James Melvin, 70, of Braintree, are accused of trying to extort $35,000 each from two businessmen, and they were arraigned in Middlesex Superior Court Tuesday morning. Somerville Man Pleads Guilty in Deadly 2011 McGrath Highway Crash

The April 2011 crash killed two 16-year-old girls

Kenneth Belew, 22, of Somerville, pleaded guilty in Middlesex Superior Court Wednesday to charges of motor vehicle homicide in connection to a 2011 McGrath Highway crash that killed two 16-year-old girls, according to an announcement from the Middlesex District Attorney's office. Belew was accused of crashing a car early in the morning on April 21, 2011, after attending a house party in Somerville where he had been drinking. Authorities said Belew had a blood alcohol level of 0.17, twice the legal limit, when he and five others left the party and decided to drive to a restaurant off McGrath Highway, the announcement says. Somerville Man Convicted of 2009 Everett Murder

Antonio Marcos Ferreira was sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole, according to Boston.com.

Antonio Marcos Ferreira, of Somerville, was convicted Friday of murdering an Everett woman in 2009, according to Boston.com. Ferreira was found guilty in Middlesex Superior Court of stabbing Sheila Dos Santos to death on Oct. 2, 2009. Read the Boston.com article here. The news website reports that Middlesex Superior Court Judge Elizabeth Fahey sentenced Ferreira to life in prison without possibility of parole. According to information from the Middlesex District Attorney's office, Ferreira, 38 at the time of the incident, had been in a romantic relationship with Dos Santos, but the two had been broken up for seven months when the murder took place. Opening arguments in the case against Somerville resident Antonio Marcos Ferreira, who was charged with murdering Sheila Dos Santos, of Everett, in 2009, are scheduled to take place in Middlesex County Superior Court this morning. Ferreira, who was 38 at the time of the alleged murder, is accused of stabbing Dos Santos to death in the early morning hours of Oct. 2, 2009, according to an announcement from the Middlesex District Attorney's office. According to the announcement, Ferreira dated Dos Santos, but the two had been broken up for seven months when the alleged murder took place.
