Middlesex Sheriff Responds to Inquiries On Political Future

Middlesex County Sheriff Peter Koutoujian issued a statement on Friday in response to inquiries on whether he would run for the Middlesex DA's seat.

Middlesex County Sheriff Peter Koutoujian is not ruling out a run to become the next Middlesex County District Attorney. Koutoujian, in a statement released Friday in response to inquires on whether he would run to fill the seat Middlesex County District Attorney Gerry Leone plans to vacate, said, "Never say never." “I love my job as Sheriff of Middlesex County and am focused on the work before me," Koutoujian said in the statement. "One of my guiding principles has always been to never say never to any opportunity in which I can provide benefit to the people I serve. Somerville Sheriff's Department Sergeant Guilty on Cocaine Charges

The sheriff's officer was pressuring an inmate for money and drugs and conducted a drug transaction with an undercover state trooper, according to the district attorney's office.

Michael Dell'Isola, 52, of Somerville, a sergeant with the Middlesex County Sheriff's Department, was found guilty Wednesday on charges that he received money and cocaine from an undercover state trooper, according to an announcement from the Middlesex District Attorney's office. Dell'Isola was found guilty after a six-day jury trial in Middlesex Superior Court, the announcement says. According to a statement from Middlesex County District Attorney Gerard Leone, "This defendant abused his position of authority by participating in illegal drug activities while on duty as a sergeant in the Middlesex Sheriff's Department." Opening Arguments in Ferreira Murder Trial Scheduled For This Morning

Antonio Marcos Ferreira, of Somerville, is accused of killing an Everett woman in 2009.

Opening arguments in the case against Somerville resident Antonio Marcos Ferreira, who was charged with murdering Sheila Dos Santos, of Everett, in 2009, are scheduled to take place in Middlesex County Superior Court this morning. Ferreira, who was 38 at the time of the alleged murder, is accused of stabbing Dos Santos to death in the early morning hours of Oct. 2, 2009, according to an announcement from the Middlesex District Attorney's office. According to the announcement, Ferreira dated Dos Santos, but the two had been broken up for seven months when the alleged murder took place. The announcement says Ferreira told the victim that if she wouldn't date him, she wouldn't be able to date anyone. When police responded to 154 Main St., …

Charges Dropped Against Professor Accused of Operating Meth Lab

Irina Kristy, a 74-year-old college lecturer, was accused of running a meth lab out of her Oxford Street home. Charges against her son remain.

The Middlesex District Attorney has dropped charges against Somerville resident Irina Kristy, who was accused of running a methamphetamine lab with her son out of their home on Oxford Street, according to Cara O'Brien, a spokesperson for the district attorney. Kristy, 74, is a college professor who has worked as a lecturer in mathematics at Boston University and Suffolk University. DEA agents and police raided her home, only a few blocks from Somerville City Hall, on Nov. 7, 2011, causing a stir in the community as agents in hazmat suits searched the residence, a state police bomb squad denoted chemicals allegedly found in the home and news helicopters hovered over the neighborhood. Randolph Man Indicted, Allegedly Threatened to Rape, Kill Somerville Woman

The 61-year-old allegedly broke into the victim's Somerville home, pinned the victim to the ground, threatened her with a gun and shot himself in the foot.

The Middlesex County District Attorney's office is charging a Randolph man with a series of assault and weapons charges stemming from a Jan. 15 incident in which he allegedly forced his way into a Somerville woman's home, pinned her to the ground, threatened to rape and kill her at gunpoint and then shot himself in the foot. James Cooper, 61, of Randolph, was indicted Feb. 9 by a Middlesex County grand jury, and he awaits an arraignment date in Middlesex Superior Court, according to the Middlesex District Attorney's office.
