Somerville Man Charged With OUI in Stoneham Crash

Daniel Gerard sustained non-life threatening injuries in crash on I-93 in Stoneham early Saturday.

A Somerville man was charged with operating under the influence of liquor after an accident in Stoneham on I-93 south early Saturday. Massachusetts State Police Trooper Nicole Morrell said Daniel Gerard, 32, of Somerville was issued a summons after being transported to Massachusetts General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Morrell said the accident involved a vehicle operated by Gerard and a tractor-trailer unit on I-93 southbound south of Exit 35. Morrell did not have information on the type of vehicle Gerard was operating. The operator of the tractor-trailer unit was not injured in the crash, according to Morrell. Initial reports indicated the crash took place at around 1 a.m. Saturday and closed several lanes of the highway…

Somerville Resident Among Six Arrested in State Police Drug Bust

The arrests followed a traffic stop in Brighton Saturday morning.

A Somerville was among the six people arrested early Saturday morning following state police traffic stop in Brighton that allegedly uncovered cocaine, methamphetamines, marijuana and assorted drug paraphernalia. Cameron Linehan, 22, of Somerville, was charged with possession to distribute methamphetamine, possession to distribute cocaine, possession to distribute marijuana and conspiracy to violate the drug laws, according to an announcement from state police. According to the announcement, at 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Trooper Matthew Clark of the state police barracks in Brighton stopped a motor vehicle for speeding and failing to stop for a stop sign on Rugg Road in Brighton. Somerville Resident to be Charged in Connection to Arlington and Waltham Bank Robberies

A 35-year-old Somerville man and a 30-year-old Arlington woman are accused of robbing two banks Tuesday afternoon.

Two individuals—one from Somerville—will be charged in connection to bank robberies that took place in Arlington and Waltham Tuesday afternoon, according to a state police press release. Trooper Mark England arrested Andrea Koutis, a 30-year-old Arlington woman, and Erik Stout, 35, of Somerville, at 4:54 p.m. Tuesday after a short pursuit on Soldiers Field Road in Boston. According to the press release, evidence indicates the two robbed the East Cambridge Savings Bank on Broadway, in Arlington, Tuesday afternoon at approximately 4:15 p.m. About 20 minutes later, according to the press release, they allegedly robbed the Sovereign Bank on Trapelo Road in Waltham. Police caught three suspects and a firearm after a car chase through Somerville and Medford.

A state police helicopter and police dogs searched a normally quiet neighborhood in West Somerville Monday night for suspects, at least one of them armed, that had led police on a car chase. Police in the area around Powder House Boulevard and Leonard Street—right next to the Tufts University campus—had three suspects in custody as of about 11 p.m., and Somerville, Medford, Boston and state police were still searching the neighborhood for a possible fourth suspect. Police also discovered one handgun, according to Deputy Chief Paul Upton of the Somerville Police Department. Somerville Man Runs Sobriety Checkpoint, Wrecks Car in Chelmsford

Suspect nearly struck state troopers while running checkpoint.

A Somerville man faces a long list of charges after allegedly running a state police sobriety checkpoint in Lowell and then wrecking his car in downtown Chelmsford early Saturday morning. Thomas Leedberg, 25, is charged with OUI-liquor (2nd offense), assault with a dangerous weapon (a car), reckless operation of a motor vehicle, speeding and other motor vehicle violations, according to a state police spokesman. He is expected to be arraigned Monday in Lowell District Court. According to a state police report, the incident began around 1:25 a.m., when Leedberg approached a sobriety checkpoint on Thorndike Road. Accident on I-93 North in Somerville Closes Lanes

Massachusetts State Police said two lanes are closed and there are minor injuries.

An accident on Interstate 93 in Somerville has closed at least two lanes of traffic on the highway Wednesday afternoon, according to a Tweet from Massachusetts State Police. At 2:51 p.m., @MassStatePolice tweeted, "MSP on scene of a crash 93 N/B in Somerville. Minor injuries. 2 left lanes closed." According to scanner transmissions monitored by Patch, the accident was a rollover that occured just before the Mystic Avenue ramp.

State Police Tactical Team Surrounds East Somerville Home, Forces Surrender

The state police special tactical operations team Monday night helped arrest a suspect wanted on gun-related offenses, according to a statement from state police.

The Massachusetts State Police Special Tactical Operations Team surrounded a Minnesota Avenue home in East Somerville Monday night after a suspect fled into the building, according to a statement from Massachusetts State Police. The special operations team surrounded 26-28 Minnesota Avenue. According to the statement, the Middlesex State Police Detective Unit called in the team after making a traffic stop in a gun-offenses investigation, and one of the suspects in the stopped car fled into the home. That suspect ultimately surrendered before the special operations team entered the residence. Man in I-93 Rollover Accident Recounts Story, Thanks Rescuers

A 28-year-old Malden resident said he owes his life to an unknown good samaritan who helped free him from the wreckage.

On April 3, the Somerville Fire Department responded to a rollover accident near exit 30 on Interstate 93. A 28-year-old Malden man who says he was driving the car that rolled over emailed Somerville Patch to thank the people who saved him and recount his story. Matt Shanbar said he was driving in the middle lane of the highway when an out-of-control car careened into him. "From overhearing witnesses talking to police when I was waiting for the ambulance, a driver tried to get out of the HOV lane ... I saw him when he already lost control," the Malden man wrote. State police suspect at least one car involved in Wednesday morning's serious head-on collision was involved in a race.

Three men, including one from Somerville, were sent to the hospital with serious injuries early Wednesday morning after a head-on, two-car collision on Route 16 in Medford, according to Massachusetts State Police. The Somerville man was reportedly driving the wrong way—westward on the eastbound side of the multilane road—when his car collided with another, and investigators suspect at least one of the cars was involved in a race, according to a report sent by state police. Man Seriously Injured in Somerville Accident on I-93 North

A 25-year-old may have been outside his disabled car when he was struck by a Ford Explorer near Exit 29, according to Massachusetts State Police.

A Stoneham man suffered serious injuries during a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 93 nortbound in the area of Exit 29 in Somerville early Tuesday morning, according to a press statement issued by Massachusetts State Police. "Initial investigation indicates that the victim, a 25-year-old male from Stoneham may have been outside of his disabled 2002 Hyundai Elantra when he was struck by a 42-year-old male from Sudbury driving a 2010 Ford Explorer," the statement reads.
