Monday: Somerville Celebrates Martin Luther King Day

The following is from the city of Somerville: 2013 MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. CEREMONY TO BE HELD 1/21 AT SOMERVILLE THEATRE Annual Ceremony will Include Two Service Day Activities – Blood Drive and Canned Food Drive, Speeches and Essay Contest Winner Announcement SOMERVILLE – Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone, the Somerville Office of Commissions and the Somerville Public Schools announce the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration event, entitled, “Equality Through Access,” to be held on Monday, January 21st in accordance with national MLK Day remembrance.  The 2013 event will be held at the Somerville Theatre from 11am – 1pm, and will include a keynote speech by Lorraine Cordeiro, Assistant Professor and Family Research Scholar at UMass/Amherst…

MLK Day: What's Open and Closed

A look at what's open and closed on Martin Luther King Day.

Today is Martin Luther King Day, and it's an official state holiday. Here's a look at what's open and closed, along with some schedules. City offices: closed Libraries: closed Post offices: closed Banks: closed Trash pickup: Delayed by one day. For example, if your normal pickup day is Tuesday, this week it's Wednesday. Parking: Meters are free on Sundays and holidays, and today is a holiday. MBTA: Subway and bus are running on a Saturday schedule.

Somerville Celebrates MLK Day at Somerville Theatre
