Woman Indecently Assaulted in Davis Square Monday Night, Say Police

The assault took place at around 8 p.m. on Dover Street outside the MBTA Red Line station.

A woman was indecently assaulted Monday night at around 8 p.m. after getting out of the Red Line station in Davis Square, according to a statement released Tuesday by the Somerville Police Department. The 32-year-old woman had just exited the Holland Street entrance of the station and was walking along Dover Street toward Cambridge when she was assaulted, police say. She was not injured in the assault, and the assailant fled after she screamed while running into the street, the statement says. Police are urging residents, particularly women, to take common-sense precautions. Alleged Indecent Assault on Tufts Campus, Somerville Man Arrested

A Somerville man has been charged with touching a female Tufts student and following her to her dorm.

A 20-year-old Somerville man was arraigned in Somerville District Court Monday and charged with indecent assault and trespassing after allegedly touching a female Tufts University student, according to a statement from the university. According to the statement, Tufts police received a report at about 10:50 p.m. Sunday from a student who had been working at the Jackson Photo Lab on Talbot Avenue, on the Somerville side of the Tufts campus. The student told police she was approached from behind by a male she didn't know, and he struck up a conversation with her and placed his hands on her lower back and buttocks, the statement says. Police Seek Suspect in Supermarket Sexual Assault

The alleged indecent assault took place in a supermarket on Sept. 3. Somerville police are seeking information about the suspect.

The Somerville Police Department Friday released the photo of a suspect accused of sexually assaulting an 18-year-old woman while she was shopping at a local supermarket on Sept. 3, Labor Day. Suspect in Series of Indecent Assaults Held Until Further Hearing

Alfredo Romero Posada, 22, appeared in Somerville District Court. He is being charged in three instances of indecent assault that took place in Somerville and Medford.

A 22-year-old man who is being charged with conducting three sexual assaults, which occured in September and October around Davis Square and Tufts University, was arraigned in Somerville District Court Friday morning. Alfredo Romero Posada is being held in custody pending a "dangerousness hearing," scheduled for Nov. 22, to detemine whether or not he should be placed in pretrial detention, according to Middlesex District Attorney Spokesperson Jessica Pastore.  Posada is charged with three counts of assault with intent to rape and three counts of indecent assault. He  is accused of perpetrating sexual assaults on Sept. 10, Sept. 24 and Oct. 22. Masked Assailant Assaults Woman Outside Porter Square

It is the fifth case of indecent assault in the area in the past 10 weeks.

Police are investigating an indecent assault that took place in Somerville outside Porter Square early Thursday morning. The indecent assault occurred at around 1:30 a.m., according to a news release from the Somerville Police Department. The assailant, wearing all black clothing and a knit ski mask, approached a 22-year-old woman from behind as she turned onto Highland Avenue from Cherry Street. She had been walking from the Porter Square area. "The victim screamed and resisted, causing the attacker to flee," the news release says. Police Increase Patrols, Review Old Records After Indecent Assaults

After four indecent assaults in six weeks, police are stepping up patrols around Davis and Porter squares.

Somerville police have increased patrols in the neighborhoods around Davis and Porter squares in the wake of a series of indecent assaults that have taken place in the area. Police are also looking at incidents over the past two years to see if they can spot possible connections. "We're throwing whatever resources we can into the mix," said Deputy Chief Paul Upton of the Somerville Police Department. As a young woman who tends to walk alone in Porter and Davis, I am very concerned about these assaults. I hope to see more police officers in the area and plan to be biking more and walking less until this man is arrested.   more ›

Somerville police released a sketch of a man suspected of committing a sexual assault on Orchard Street.

Somerville police have released a compsosite sketch of a suspect in an indecent assualt that took place on Orchard Street, near Davis Square, on Oct. 2.
