Unlike some communities, where children ride yellow buses, Somerville is a place where kids walk to school. The thing about school is it starts so early in the morning. Too early in the morning. Beautiful Historic Church: Saint Ann's in Winter Hill Reconnects with History

Saint Ann's received a significant makeover that brought out its historic attributes.

The Somerville Historic Preservation Commission held its Historic Preservation Awards cermony in May, and this summer Somerville Patch will feature the homes and properties that won awards. Somerville writer Marian Berkowitz interviewed the winners to create profiles of the historic Somerville properties and the people who care for them. Beautiful Historic Home: Atop Prospect Hill, a House with a Turret—and a Murder Story

James and Dina Traniello inherited the family home, restoring the exterior and learning a gruesome story about one of its original inhabitants—a young woman who was murdered while away at college.

Beautiful Historic Home: Couple Took Chance on Davis Square House in 1969

The Colanninos saw the potential in a "dilapidated" Orchard Street home when they bought it 43 years ago. Today, it's a stunning historic home in Davis Square with a decorative gate.

Somerville Home Sales Up Significantly Through June

Home sales bounced back to 2010 numbers in the first half of 2012, according to The Warren Group.

Somerville Home sales were up considerably in the first half of 2012. According to figures from The Warren Group, publisher of Banker & Tradesman, 270 condos and single-family homes sold in Somerville during the first six months of the year. That's a 58.8 percent increase over the 170 condos and single-family homes that sold during the same period of 2011, according to the figures. June was a strong month, with 92 condos and single-family homes selling, compared to 61 in June of 2011. The first half of 2011 was particularly slow in Somerville, though home sales increased during the second half of that year. The numbers in 2012 more closely resemble those seen in 2010, when 273 condos and single-family homes sold in Somerville during the …

Somerville Foreclosures Slightly Down in First Half of 2012

When compared to the first half of 2010, the decrease in foreclosures has been steep.

Somerville saw 15 completed foreclosures in the first six months of 2012, according to figures provided by The Warren Group, publisher of Banker & Tradesman. That's down from the 17 completed foreclosures seen in the first half of 2011. The decline in foreclosures was steep compared to 2010, when there were 29 completed foreclosures in the first six months of the year. Compared to that year, foreclosures this year are down 48 percent. However, when it comes to foreclosure petitions, which mark the beginning of the foreclosure process, the numbers were up in the first half of 2012 compared to 2011. There were 26 foreclosure petitions through June in 2012 and 21 through June in 2011, a 23 percent increase. Still, there were 66 foreclosure …
