Hanukkah 2012 in Somerville

Celebrate the Festival of Lights in Somerville with fun events and delicious recipes.

This year, Hanukkah begins on the evening of Saturday, Dec. 8, and ends a week later on Sunday, Dec. 16. According to Chabad.org, Hanukkah starts on the Hebrew calendar date of 25 Kislev and lasts for eight days. For those of us who aren't attuned to the Jewish calendar, that translates to sundown on Saturday, Dec. 8.  Here in Somerville, Temple B'nai Brith in Winter Hill is holding Hanukkah services and candle lightings. You can check out their calendar here. According the temple's website, there's a children's school Hanukkah party on Dec. 9, a potluck dinner on Dec. 14 and a Hanukkah "tot shabbat" on Dec. 15.  Also, for the first time ever, the city of Somerville is lighting a menorah on the City Hall Concourse.
