Somerville/Summerville Hurricane Sandy Donation Effort Runs Dec. 10 to Dec. 22

Somerville, Mass., is teaming up with Somerville, N.J. and Summerville, S.C. to donate goods to victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Three cities with the same name—Somerville, Mass., Somerville, N.J. and Summerville, S.C.—are teaming up to collect a variety of goods for victims of Hurricane Sandy. Summerville, S.C. sent its donations to New Jersey on Dec. 7, and Somerville, Mass., will send donations on Dec. 22. The city made the following announcement (below) about when and where to make donations. In short, you can make donations from Dec. 10 to Dec. 21. Impressed by Effort, State Extends Deadline for Somerville Museum Donations

The state extended the deadline for donations to the Somerville Museum building fund to March 15. Just $6,643 left to go to qualify for the full state $104,500 matching grant.

The Somerville Museum asked and Somerville answered. After the museum announced mid-December that it had just two months to raise the final $50,000 needed to repair the building—and still qualify for the full $104,500 matching grant awarded by the state—residents responded with a surge of generosity. And that response so impressed the state that they extended the deadline until mid-March for the final $6,643 left to raise. “They will give us additional time to raise the match, given our tremendous energy in raising the funds recently,” said Barbara Mangum, a friend of the Museum who helped in the grant writing process.
