Davis Square Boutique, Suneri, Closing, Whats-Nü Moving In

Whats-Nü will feature mostly women's clothing and accessories along with other items, such as cards and candles.

Suneri, a women's clothing boutique on Holland Street in Davis Square, is closing its doors Sept. 16, according to its website and an email sent to customers. A new store, Whats-Nü, will be opening in the space, at 67 Holland St., in October, according to Suneri's website. Whats-Nü plans will sell mostly women's clothing and accessories along with some gender neutral items, artwork, cards, candles, leather goods and other stuff, according to its website. The owner of Whats-Nü, Lena Gorczyca, has been a designer and seamstress in Davis Square for four years, the website says. In fact, Gorczyca has been the seamstress and "resident designer" at Suneri, according to Suneri's website—so there's a strong connection between the two businesses. …

East Asia Restaurant Closes, Will Become 'Fusion Test Kitchen'

A Somerville favorite closes, but a new restaurant taking its place looks promising.

East Asia Restaurant at the Powder House Square has closed, according to Boston Restaurant Talk, Davis Square Livejournal and other blogs. East Asia Restaurant, which served Chinese and Thai cuisine, was recently nominated on Somerville Patch as one of the best Asian restaurants in the city, and, as Boston Restaurant Talk points out, it was once featured on Boston's Hidden Restaurants. A new restaurant will take its place, according to the above-mentioned posts. It's called DooWee & Rice, and this is what the new restaurant's website says about it, in the words of the new owner: My name is DooWee (duy) and I am a young chef with big dreams! … and as of July 2012 my dreams and ideas are all coming together in the form of a small fusion test…

Union Square Boutique, Grand, Closes

The store sold quirky gifts and locally made items, and it contributed to Union Square's overall character as a hip and creative place.

Grand, a Union Square boutique that sold clothing, housewares and quirky gifts, often designed or made by local artists and artisans, has closed, according to the store's website and Facebook page. In a Facebook update posted on Feb. 23, co-owners Wendy Friedman and Jonathan O'Toole announced that "After 4+ years, your friends at Grand are calling it a day and sailing off into the sunset of Somerville Ave. It's been real, but we're ready to move on to new ventures." "We just want to sincerely thank all of you who have supported us over the past 4 years," the two wrote.
