Police: Resident Took Evidence From Burglars that Led to Their Arrest

When a Somerville resident confronted intruders in his home, they pulled a knife on him, but he managed to grab important evidence, according to a police report.

When a Mansfield Street man returned home from work shortly after midnight on April 2, he found two young men in his home, and what happened next helped police find the alleged burglars, according to a police report. The report says the resident, when he found the two strangers in his 36 Mansfield St. home, began to struggle with one of them. During the struggle, he managed to rip the alleged burglar's jackets, T-shirt and baseball cap off, the report says. At that point the other stranger pulled a knife, and the resident let his adversary go, according to the report, which says the two intruders ran out of the apartment. Police Report: Drunk Customer Goes Berserk in Union Square's El Potro Restaurant

A 33-year-old man allegedly tried to pick fights with customers and employees and broke into the restaurant after being locked out.

Police arrested a drunk customer who threatened customers and tried to start a fight with an employee at Union Square's El Potro Mexican Bar and Grill, according to allegations in a police report. In doing so, the customer, 33-year-old Mario Rodriguez, of 184 Tremont St., allegedly damaged the restaurant's door and broke glasses and other items. Police responded to 61 Union Square, which is the address of El Potro, at about 12:15 a.m. on Feb. 7, the report says. When they arrived, Rodriguez was sitting in the corner, and he refused to give his name to police, according to the report. Report: Witnesses Detain Boy Accused of Breaking Into Cars

The 15-year-old boy had a pair of brass knuckles, and two suspects he was with fled the scene, according to a police report.

Somerville police arrested a 15-year-old boy Sunday night after witnesses caught him breaking into a car on Cherry Street, according to allegations in a police report. The report says the witnesses were walking down Cherry Street, sometime before 8:20 p.m., when they saw three people trying the door handles to cars and eventually getting into a car. The witness shouted at the suspects that they were calling police, and two of the suspects fled toward Highland Avenue, leaving behind the 15-year-old boy, whom the witnesses apprehended near 10 Steeves Circle., according to the report. Police Respond to Spike in Home Break-Ins in Eastern Somerville

Police have recovered some of the property after arrests and the execution of a search warrant in Charlestown.

The eastern part of Somerville has seen a series of home break-ins in recent weeks, and Somerville police have made some arrests they believe may be connected to the break-ins. According to information provided by the Somerville Police Department, there were 15 breaking-and-entering reports in the eastern part of the city from Aug. 13 to Aug. 20. This includes areas in East Somerville, around Union Square, near the Cambridge border around Inman Square and into the central part of the city. Police reports say there's been a "surge" and "spike" in break-ins in recent weeks. Police Report Indicates Storyteller Broke Into East Broadway Frame Shop

The Somerville man allegedly tried to fool police with a fib, but it didn't work, according to a police report.

On Feb. 12, at about 6:30 p.m., Somerville police responded to an alarm at PSG Framing Shop on Broadway in East Somerville, according to a police report. When police arrived, they found one of the doors open, and inside was a man holding a flashlight and opening what appeared to be a tool box, the report says. The man, 47-year-old Ailton Ornelas of Somerville, told police he was working for the owner of the shop, Carlos, and was planning to meet Carlos there, according to the report. However, the report says the responding police officer knows the shop's owner—in particular, he knows the owner's name isn't Carlos. Man Confronts Suspected Burglar, Who Flees, Returns, Then Gets Arrested

A Somerville man was charged with breaking and entering into a Prospect Hill apartment. He allegedly returned to the home even after an occupant spoke to him.

Police arrested a 41-year-old Somerville man, charging him with breaking and entering into a Prospect Hill apartment. The man allegedly fled the apartment when confronted by one of its occupants, but then returned moments later, allowing the occupants to get a good look at him. The incident took place at about 5:30 a.m. Saturday morning at 33 Walnut Street. Police arrived at the address to respond to a report of a man breaking in. There, police spoke to a resident of the apartment and his house guest. The house guest told police he was woken by someone tampering with a window off the back porch, according to a police report. Early Morning Burglary Targets Empty Kegs, Beer Bottles

Two Cambridge men tried to take empty beer kegs and bottles from an Inman Square bar, according to police.

In an early-morning break-in, two Cambridge men attempted to filch several empty beer kegs and cases of empty beer bottles from Trina's Starlite Lounge, according to a police report. Police responded to the Beacon Street bar in Inman Square at about 5 a.m. on Sept. 15 to investigate a report that people were taking the empty beer containers, the report says. The bar is at the corner of Beacon and Dickinson streets. When officers arrived, they saw four empty kegs and about 23 cases of empty beer bottles on the sidewalk. Two men were in the process of moving two other kegs into a car, and across Dickinson Street was a shopping cart filled with boxes containing empty beer bottles, according to the report.
