Johnny D's Opening Cafe and Bakery in Davis Square

The cafe will feature local food. It doesn't have an opening date yet.

On Tuesday, we reported that a "unique green cafe and bakery" was planning to open in Davis Square in the site previously occupied by Square Nail Studio. We have now confirmed the people at Johnny D's, next door, are behind the project. One of Johnny D's owners said they're still working on plans and they'd have more information about the venture later. It does seem the cafe and bakery will feature locally sourced and natural foods. Johnny D's, one of Davis Square's popular restaurants and music venues, is already committed to what its website calls "a healthier approach, a community approach" when it comes to food. According to the website, the restaurant uses cage-free eggs, "grass-fed steroid antibiotic free ground beef" from western …

Quick Look: Fortissimo, Union Square's Newest Coffee Shop

Run by a 20-year-old who spent much of his childhood in Somerville, Fortissimo opened in late April.

Soares, and his family, are not strangers to Union Square. His parents bought the site of the coffee shop, at 365 Somerville Ave., about ten years ago, Soares said. The family ran it for years as International Market. Soares said his parents also run some other businesses, including branches of Global Money Remittance, a money transfer operation. The family moved to Somerville from …

'Unique Green Cafe and Bakery' Coming to Davis Square

It will move into the former site of Square Nail Studio.

Somerville Patch took this photo of a sign posted in the former Square Nail Studio at 11 Holland St. in Davis Square. The sign says, "This space is being renovated to make way for a unique green café and bakery." A message on the Square Nail Studio website, written by owner Heather Wright, says a little more: "After reaching nearly the decade point at The Square Nail Studio, I am saddened to inform you that our lease will not be renewed. The owners of our building are excited to be developing the studio space along with an adjoining space into a natural food bar/cafe." Somerville Patch poked around online and couldn't find any news of the new bakery and café. Does anyone know what it will be? On her website, Wright's message to her …
