Unlicensed Driver Rolls Over on Route 93 North; Car Catches Fire

The one-car crash occurred at about 12:15 a.m. Sunday.

A 1997 Toyota Camry rolled over at about 12:15 a.m. Sunday on Route 93 North in Somerville, near exit 31, according to State Police. The vehicle then caught fire, police said. The highway was shut down for about 15 minutes at exit 31, as emergency personnel, including Somerville firefighters, extricated the vehicle’s driver and only occupant, 49-year-old Hermes Monroy Gonzalez, of Dorchester, police said. Gonzalez was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with undisclosed injuries and cited for driving without a license, according to police. The one-car crash happened in the center lane of Route 93 North, police said.

One Injured in I-93 Rollover Early Friday Morning

The accident happened on I-93 North at about 2:30 a.m.

A rollover accident on Interstate 93 early Friday morning sent one person to the hospital, according to the Somerville Fire Department. The accident happened on I-93 North in Somerville at about 2:30 a.m., according to Acting Lt. Derek Nolan. Nolan did not have information about the extent of the injury or about which hospital the victim was transported to.

It's probably the worst area to be driving when it's dark. There are always accident/rollovers here. I guess it's still not reason enough to get those street lights working. I don't believe they've worked in 15 years.   more ›

Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident Near Tufts

A woman flew into a car's windshield, then the car sped off, according to witnesses.

A pedestrian was hit by a car shortly before 5 p.m. Sunday evening at the intersection of Powderhouse Boulevard and Packard Avenue, near Tufts University.  According to witnesses, the woman was crossing the street in the crosswalk when a car sped into the intersection, honked, then hit the woman. "She flew up onto the windshield, they floored it and drove away," said Flavia, a Tufts student who witnessed the incident and did not want to give her last name. Flavia and another Tufts student who witnessed the accident said they called 911. They said the car fled westward on Powderhouse Boulevard. Another woman, who also did not give her name, was walking along Powderhouse Boulevard when she heard screeching wheels and saw the car speed off. …

Man Seriously Injured in Somerville Accident on I-93 North

A 25-year-old may have been outside his disabled car when he was struck by a Ford Explorer near Exit 29, according to Massachusetts State Police.

A Stoneham man suffered serious injuries during a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 93 nortbound in the area of Exit 29 in Somerville early Tuesday morning, according to a press statement issued by Massachusetts State Police. "Initial investigation indicates that the victim, a 25-year-old male from Stoneham may have been outside of his disabled 2002 Hyundai Elantra when he was struck by a 42-year-old male from Sudbury driving a 2010 Ford Explorer," the statement reads. The investigation is being handled by the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Crime Scene Services Section, and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation Highways Division and the Somerville Fire Department are also on scene, …

Nearby: Car Stolen in Medford Blamed for Highway Accident

The driver of the stolen car drove the wrong way on Interstate 93 and caused a four-car crash, say Massachusetts State Police.

UPDATE, 2:30 p.m.: The man arrested in this incident, Richard Saunders, of Reading, is wanted by Reading Police for another incident of driving in the wrong direction on a highway. He is accused of driving north in the southbound lane of Route 128, nearly hitting a family of four.Read the story on Reading Patch. A car reported stolen out of Medford is believed to have caused a four-car accident on Interstate 93 in Dorchester Monday after driving the wrong way on the highway, according to a statement from Massachusetts State Police. Cyclist Struck Near Powder House Rotary; No Serious Injuries

Victim declined hospitalization, police said.

A cyclist was struck by a vehicle near the Powder House Rotary Saturday afternoon, though police said no serious injuries were reported. While ambulances were requested, the cyclist ultimately declined a trip to the hospital.
