The Chinese national was studying statistics at Boston University. She was killed in Monday's bombing at the Boston Marathon.
A Chinese newspaper has identified the third Boston Marathon bombing victim as Lu Lingzu, a Boston University graduate student, according to the Associated Press. Lu, from Shenyang, China, was studying statistics in Boston. A second Chinese national and BU student, Zhou Danling, was also injured in the blasts. She is listed in stable condition in a Boston hospital, according to Chinese officials. Lu's death has led to an outpouring from friends, family and concerned neighbors in China. Lu's Sina Weibo page already has 20,000 comments from shocked and upset friends (Sina Weibo is a Chinese social media service that combines Twitter- and Facebook-like features). Somerville named the corner of Gussie Terrace and Porter Street after Invernizzi in October. He was 84 when he passed away.
Robert E. Invernizzi, who saw action in the Pacific in the years immediately following World War II—he enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 in September of 1945—and who lost an eye in the Korean War, passed away on Dec. 4 at the age of 84, according to an email from his family and Rogers Funeral Home. In October, Somerville dedicated the corner of Gussie Terrace and Porter Street as Radarman Second Class Robert E. Invernizzi Square. He was a lifelong Somerville resident and one of the city's most decorated veterans. After the wars, Invernizzi, a draftsman, helped design guidance systems at MIT and aircraft enigines at General Electric. Friends and colleagues respond to the sad news via a memorial website.
The woman found dead by firefighters at 16 Chester St. on Tuesday has been identified as Susan Livingston, 64. For the past 28 years, Livingston served as the administrator of Cabot House, one of Harvard University’s undergraduate residences—and those who knew her say she will be sorely missed. The circumstances of Livingston’s death, and how it may or may not have been connected to the small fire that drew firefighters to her apartment, is still under investigation by the State and Somerville Police as well as the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and State Fire Marshall.
