The Somerville Transportation Equity Partnership, or STEP, is a community organization advocating for improvements to local public transportation.  Made up of a group of concerned residents, STEP's mission is to secure public transportation for the city in order to increase social equity, environmental health, and economic opportunity. The main focal point of STEP's work over the past few years has been advocating for progress on the extension of the MBTA Green Line from Lechmere into Somerville and Medford, a mandated part of the Big Dig and the Clean Air Act. STEP holds meetings on the third Monday of every month in the community room at the VNA Assisted Living facility.
