Somerville SomerStat and ResiStat

With all the calculating going on in the SomerStat office at City Hall, you'd almost expect a wall of computers humming away inside. But actually, a small staff of analysts quietly rack up big savings for the city here. Started by Mayor Curtatone in 2004, the office gathers statistics on City spending, income and processes and searches for ways to improve efficiency. For one, they helped the City do a better job of collecting parking and trash fines to the tune of over $275,000 in added revenues in 2009 (so feed your meter).

But SomerStat doesn't just present its data to the Mayor and Board of Alderman. ResiStat meetings take the process right into neighborhoods. At these community discussions, resident concerns are gathered. SomerStat analysts then research those issues, return to the community with data and then gather resident input on how to best address the problem. Hey, it's your City. So check out the ResiStat website and join the e-mail list here.
