This Weekend in Somerville: Open Studios, Chick Singer Night

It's a musical weekend in Somerville. Concerts include an opera composed by prisoners at a Nazi concentration camp, jazz, and a wind ensemble performance for kids accompanied by crayons.

Chick Singer Night Boston
This showcase of female music talent, featuring musicians from around the region, supports music and arts programs in Boston-area schools. It's at Johnny D's on Saturday, starting at 4 p.m.

Brickbottom and Joy Street Open Studios

More than 100 artists will be participating in this open studio event, which takes place Saturday and Sunday. Genres include painting, glass blowing, ceramics, printmaking, animation, sound, theatre, music and more, according to the listing. Among the exhibits is a unique idea: the Reciprocity Stream Open Photo Show, in which visitors can bring their own photos to exhibit and, get this, take photos that are already in the exhibit home, for free. In other words, leave a photo, take a photo. The open studios are from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Hot Sauce at Johnny D's, a Free Show
Doors open at 9:30 p.m. Saturday for this free show at Johnny D's, featuring R&B, soul and other "Hot Sauce" sounds.

Caged Birds: Opera from Terezin
Created by Viktor Ullmann and Peter Kien when they were prisoners at the Nazi concentration camp known as Terezin, this one-act opera will be performed by second-year students from the New England Conservatory, according to the listing. The opera was banned by the Nazis for being a satire of Hitler, and both Ullmann and Kein died at Auschwitz, the listing says. It's being performed Saturday at 8 p.m. at The Center for Arts at the Armory.

Saturday Family and Children's Concert
The Tufts Wind Ensemble invites children to listen to music and wield crayons at this concert, which takes place at 1 p.m. at Tufts University's Granoff Music Center.

Tufts Jazz Orchestra: America
Also at Tufts, this concert is a journey through the jazz of North and South America, including Afro-Cuban sounds. It's at the Cabot Auditorium Saturday at 8 p.m.

Singing The Holiday: A Fresh Take On Thanksgiving
According to the listing, this is "a community sing-along and discussion to celebrate and explore some of the exciting, but often ignored aspects of the holiday and its territory." It's Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Third Life Studio, 33 Union Square.

French Baroque Lute Music
This performance, at the Somerville Museum, features Somerville resident Olav Chris Henriksen, a lute soloist who's performed throughout America and Europe. The concert begins at 3 p.m. Sunday at the museum, 1 Westwood Rd.

Brady v. Manning
Hipsters and football fans unite at The Sinclair in Harvard Square Sunday, where Pabst Blue Ribbon is throwing a tailgate party for the New England-Denver game. It starts at 7 p.m., and you should RSVP on Facebook.
