This Weekend in Somerville: More Boston Comedy Fest, Childhood Literacy Fair

Also happening in Somerville this weekend: the annual Wrap Around sale kicks off with a cupcake reception, and an homage to French singer Edith Piaf.

Boston Comedy Festival
The Boston Comedy Festival, which has been in Davis Square all week, wraps up this weekend with some top performances. Lenny Clarke performs Friday at 8 p.m. at Johnny D's in Davis Square. Semi-finals in the standup competition also take place Friday at Davis Square Theatre, a night that begins at 7 p.m. with the Tony V Experience. Then, on Saturday, the standup competition finals are at Somerville Theatre at 8 p.m. Also on Saturday, Andy Kindler performs at Davis Square Theatre at 9 p.m.

Early Childhood Literacy Fair
Curious George will make an appearance at this year's Early Childhood Literacy Fair, and there will be activities led by the New England Aquarium, the New England Zoo and the Museum of Science. The fair provides information to families and kids about books and literacy opportunities in Somerville. It's Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Healey School, 5 Meacham St.

Wrap Around Sale and Cupcake Reception
The annual Wrap Around Sale kicks off on Saturday with a cupcake reception. Run by the Nave Gallery, the sale features handmade knit and sewn items that serve as perfect Christmas or Hanukkah gifts. The sale runs through Dec. 15 on Saturdays, and it benefits the Somerville Homeless Coalition. The cupcake reception is from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at 155 Powderhouse Blvd.

Reliquary by The Nave Gallery
Also at the Nave Gallery is the opening of an exhibit called "Reliquary." Here's the description: "A reliquary is a container that holds or displays something sacred. Artwork in this show plays on the concepts of enclosure, concealment, display, sacred and/or profane." The exhibit runs through Dec. 15, with a reception on Dec. 15. You can see it from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

An Afternoon of Art and Culture
Check out this unique space, at 151 College Ave., outside Davis Square, and hear kids from the Lucky Ten Vocal and Dance Studio perform. It's Saturday at 2 p.m. and tickets cost $45.

Applied Music Recitals
Hear performances by students at Tufts. This concert is free, and it starts Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at the Distler Performance Hall at the Granoff Music Center.

The New England Tuba Quartet
Even more happening at the Nave Gallery: The New England Tuba Quartet will be at the gallery Saturday at 7 p.m.

Journeys in Sound Presents Hymnes à l'Amour
This concert features interpretations of songs from the French singer Edith Piaf. It's Sunday at 4 p.m. at The Center for Arts at the Armory.
