This Weekend in Somerville: Harvest Fest, Drag Gospel

The Tour de Somerville, a Monster Mashed-Up street festival, a Dar Williams performance and the RESPOND gala are also happening this weekend, along with lots of other stuff.

Harvest Fest
Beer and food lovers rejoice: Somerville Local First's Harvest Fest takes place Saturday. Harvest Fest will include 12 breweries and food from local restaurants, including Casa B and the new A4 Pizza. There will also be live music. There are two sessions. One starts at 2 p.m., one starts at 6 p.m. You can get tickets here, and proceeds benefit Somerville Local First.

Dar Williams

The singer performs at Somerville Theatre Friday at 7:30 p.m. See if you can get tickets here.

Monster Mashed-Up
The last SomerStreets event of the year takes place Sunday with Monster Mashed-Up. Pumpkin carvers will use chainsaws to make jack-o'-lanterns out of 100-pound pumpkins, and there will be costume contests for children, dogs and adults. There's also an Oktoberfest, hay rides, children's activities and tours of Milk Row Cemetery. It's from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. along Somerville Avenue near Union Square.

Tour de Somerville
This fall's Tour de Somerville, organized by the Somerville Bicycle Committee, is called "Over, Under, Around, and Through." It celebrates bridges, tunnels and overpasses in the city, and it provides riders with a chance to see a new boardwalk under Route 28, among other things. The tour kicks off Saturday at 10 a.m. at Seven Hills Park, behind the Davis Square T station. If it rains, the event will take place on Sunday.

Drag Gospel Festival
The third annual Drag Gospel Festival takes place Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, drag queens will perform a variety of music at Johnny D's in Davis Square. On Sunday, there's a worship service at 10 a.m. at First Church Somerville, 89 College Ave. Afterward, there's a drag show and lunch at 11:30 a.m. The festival benefits the LGBT Asylum Task Force, which helps gay asylum seekers around the world, according to an email from First Church Somerville.

Ghosts of Somerville
Visit Somerville's Milk Row Cemetery, where many of the city's early founders are buried, and get tours from costumed guides—or are they ghosts?—who will talk about the history of the cemetery and the city. The tours are Sunday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the cemetery, 400 Somerville Ave., near the Market Basket.

Bulb Blitz
Volunteers are invited to help plant nearly 6,000 tulip and daffodil throughout the city. Come spring, the hard work will pay off when the city blooms with color. If you're interested in helping plant bulbs, you can sign up at surveymonkey.com, and you can learn more at Somerville's Urban Ag blog.

Head of the Charles
The 49th annual Head of the Charles—an event where people stand around on the banks of the Charles River and drink beer—takes place this weekend in a suburb of Somerville known as Cambridge. You can learn more here.

RESPOND Gala
RESPOND, Inc., a domestic violence agency based in Somerville, holds its annual gala on Friday. Former Middlesex County District Attorney Gerry Leone will give the keynote address. The gala is at 6 p.m. Friday at the Hotel Marlowe in Cambridge.

ComedySportzBoston
This is improvisational comedy played as a sport. The improv comedians compete for laughs and points as they play different games. If you like "Who's Line Is It Anyway," this may be for you. It's at Davis Square Theatre Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m.

Alderman Dennis Sullivan's Mobile Office Hours
Alderman At-Large Dennis Sullivan is holding office hours Saturday in East Somerville and Union Square. He'll be at the Somerville Public Library East Branch at 10 a.m. and at the Union Square Dunkin' Donuts at 11 a.m. If you want to chat with Sullivan and can't make it this Saturday, he'll be holding more mobile office hours in other parts of Somerville over the next two Saturdays.

Channel Zero Presents "Ferry Cross the Mersey" (1965)
This film, which hasn't been shown in Boston in 40 years, is a trip through the Liverpool Beat Scene of the 1960s. It screens at Somerville Theatre Friday at 8 p.m.

Recycling Event
If you've got big, awkward things you'd like to recycle—lawn mowers, TVs, electronics, etc.—you can do so at Wellington Station in Medford from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The cost is $10 per car load, and there are some other costs for TVs and computer monitors. Brining them ensures they'll be recycled in a responsible way.
