This Weekend in Somerville: Day of the Dead Parties, Kids Film Festival

Also happening in Somerville this weekend: Latin Foods and Local Brews, a saki cocktail party, art exhibits and music

Day of the Dead Parties
You've got a few options. First, you'll want to check out Taza Chocolate's celebration, which is a perennial favorite. The festivities begin at 1 p.m. at the Union Square Farmers Market with a procession to Taza's nearby factory. Wear a costume. Then, at Taza headquarters, there will be Mexican hot chocolate, local beer, food, live music and face painting. Later Saturday night, starting at 6 p.m., Cantina La Mexicana will be celebrating with a mariachi band an an altar-making workshop (and food and drink, of course). Meanwhile, Cuisine en Locale, which just moved into new digs at the Anthony's Function space at 156 Highland Ave., is also throwing a party. There will be cocktails, live music, food and costumes, and it starts at 7:30 p.m. If you want to head into Cambridge, the Cambridge Art Association (25 Lowell St.) will have DJs, food, dancing, drinks and face painting starting at 7 p.m. In Davis Square, Painted Burro will have festivities and food all weekend.

Boston International Kids Film Festival
The first ever Boston International Kids Film Festival takes place this weekend at Somerville Theatre. It will include around 50 films for, by and about children. It opens Friday night, and there are screenings Friday, Saturday and Sunday. More here.

Red Sox Parade
Of course, this isn't in Somerville, but you'll want to figure out when and where to watch the parade. The duck-boat procession starts Saturday at 10 a.m. at Fenway Park, winds its way through downtown, and then enters the Charles River near the Museum of Science.

2nd Annual Latin Foods & Local Brews
Casa Connection, Inc., which supports the Casa San Jose Orphanage in Colima, Mexico, is throwing its second annual Latin Foods & Local Brews fundraiser on Saturday. About 20 local brewers will be on hand along with Latin-food vendors. It's from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at The Center for Arts at the Armory. More here.

Brother Cleve's Late Night Sake Cocktail Party at Ebi Sushi
Boston cocktail legend Brother Cleve will be making sake cocktails and showing Japanese horror films from his personal collection. It's all to help Ebi Shushi, at 290 Somerville Ave., raise money for an exterior facelift. The cocktails and movies start Saturday at 10 p.m. Tickets are $50.

"Amka and The Three Golden Rules"
This film, according to the listing, is "about a ten year old Mongolian boy who discovers a gold coin and soon his life spirals out of control. He then goes to the countryside where his eccentric and funny uncle teaches him three golden lessons in life." It's part of the Boston International Kids Film Festival. This is a family film, and you can see it Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Somerville Theatre.

Nourish Your Well Being 
The Amethyst Center in Davis Square offers massage, naturopathic medicine, holistic skin care, and chiropractic and energy therapies. On Saturday it's offering short treatments, for $15 donations, to benefit the Somerville Homeless Coalition. Stop by from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to make a donation. It often sells out, so better yet, call (617) 591-9200 to make an appointment. Amethyst Center is located at 259 Elm St., 3rd Floor.

Photographer on the MBTA
This exhibit, of works by photographer Gretchen Ann Graham, opens Friday at 7 p.m. at the Washington Street Art Center, 321 Washington St., near Union Square. The exhibit explores Graham's lifelong relationship with the MBTA. If you miss Friday's opening reception, you can check it out Saturdays, through Nov. 30, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Peer-Reviewed Submissions Reception by The Nave Gallery
According to the listing, "science and art mash up in a show of works with mathematical and scientific themes." It's at the Nave Gallery Annex, 53 Chester St. in Davis Square, at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Family and Children's Concert Series: Kiniwe
Kiniwe, the Tufts African drumming and dancing ensemble, performs Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Granoff Music Center. It's a performance for the whole family.

Carolann Solebello, Beth Desombre and Susan Levine
The singer-songwriters perform at The Center for Arts at the Armory Saturday at 8 p.m.

Rough Cut, Presented by SCATV
Working on a film? Share your rough cut (3 minutes worth), get feedback, and enjoy beverages from the Greek American Social Club. It's at the club, 79 Bow St., at 3 p.m. on Sunday. It's free and open to the public.

Singing and Beyond
Faculty vocalist Tisha Stadnicki performs at the Distler Performance Hall, Granoff Music Center, Tufts University, 20 Talbot Ave. on Sunday at 3 p.m.
