This Weekend in Somerville: Cupcakes, Meatballs, Family Fun Day

Plus, some events to support local victims of the Boston Marathon bombers, musical performances and a look at horror films.

Family Fun Day
Family Fun Day includes a free barbecue, face painting, train rides, games, music, and a curious creatures display. It's Saturday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Trum Field. The rain date is Sunday.

Cupcake Camp
Nearly 40 cupcake bakers, including pros like Casa B and Cakeology, in addition to a number of amateurs, will serve up their cupcakes Sunday at Hodgkins-Curtin Park near Davis Square. There will also be live music, a cupcake eating contest, a cupcake relay race and activities for kids. It begins at 11 a.m. and goes until 4 p.m., rain or shine.

Meatball Takedown

Cooks will show off their meatball recipes, and there will be "a bajillion styles of perfect meatballz," according to the listing. If you like meatballs, don't miss it. It tales place Sunday at 2 p.m. at The Center for Arts at the Armory.

Boston Strong First Responder Basketball Tournament

The Somerville, Cambridge, Arlington and Watertown police departments along with the Watertown Fire Department and Boston EMS are among the first-responder organizations participating in this tournament. A bunch of local high school teams are also participating. Proceeds will benefit the Sean Collier Fund and the One Fund Boston. It takes place Saturday at 9 a.m. at 77 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge.

Krystle M. Campbell Fundraiser at The Burren
This outdoor fundraiser will benefit the Krystle M. Campbell Memorial Fund. Campbell, with strong family ties to Somerville, was killed in the Boston Marathon bombings. It's from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at The Burren.

Sex, Drugs and the Great American Songbook
A number of singers will perform, and there will be some trivia, too. It takes place Friday at 7:30 p.m. at The Center for Arts at the Armory.

Real School of Music Student Showcase at Johnny D's
Several student bands from Burlington and Andover play at Johnny D's in Davis Square. The show is at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Ghosts in the Machine: The Evolution of Found Footage Horror
From the listing: "Rue Morgue and Famous Monsters of Filmland writer Alexandra West ... will discuss the 'found footage' conceit tracing its literary roots to its transformation as bewildering mainstay in modern cinema." If you're a horror film fan, check it out at 8 p.m. Saturday at Somerville Theatre.
