Tuesday Essentials: First Day of School and Whole Foods

Also happening this week: The Toy Camera Festival continues, and Hearty Meals for All holds a fundraiser.

First Day of School
The first day of school, for students, is Wednesday. It will be a half day. Welcome back.

Whole Foods Opens

The new Whole Foods on Beacon Street, near Inman Square, opens Wednesday with a "bread breaking" ceremony at 9:45 a.m.

Somerville Toy Camera Festival at Nave Gallery
The first annual Somerville Toy Camera Festival continues this month at the Washington Street Art Center and the Nave Gallery's various spaces. On Friday, there's an opening reception for one of the exhibits at the Nave Gallery, 155 Powderhouse Blvd., from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Film Screening  of "A Place at the Table"
See this documentary, about hunger in America, at a fundraising event for Hearty Meals for All, a Somerville-based free meals program. After the screening there will be a panel discussion with Ward 6 Alderman Rebekah Gewirtz. There will also be live music and cocktails. The fundraiser begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday at The Armory.

Zoning Board of Appeals
The Somerville Zoning Board of Appeals meets Wednesday at 6 p.m. An agenda for the meeting says a discussion about a large development proposal at 90 Washington St. is likely to be continued—postponed—until Sept. 18.
