Monday Essentials: Apparently Some Holidays Happen This Week

A look at the week ahead in Somerville

Thanksgiving and Hanukkah
You may have heard that Thanksgiving and the first day of Hanukkah, in an occurrence that won't happen again for another 76,000 years, fall on the same day this year: Thursday. You probably haven't heard the funny mashed-up name some are calling this hybrid holiday: "Hanukkah-giving." Pretty catchy, no? I say you probably haven't heard it because media outlets—including Somerville Patch, most likely—definitely have not been going way overboard in their use of the phrase until you scream, "Okay, okay! I get it! Yes, you've mixed two words into one. Enough. Can I just spend some quiet time with my family now?" Luckily that hasn't happened. Anyway, Thursday is Thanksgiving and Hanukkah. Have a good holiday-ikkah. City offices will be closed

Friday also has some sort of name
City offices will also be closed on Friday after Thanksgiving.

Board of Aldermen
The Somerville Board of Aldermen meet on Tuesday, Nov. 26, at 6:45 p.m., at which point members will elect a president for 2014. The regular meeting begins at 7 p.m.

Slutcracker
The Slutcracker, now in its sixth season, opens Nov. 30 at Somerville Theatre.

Weather
Monday should be sunny with a high of around 32.
