What does your teen son need to grow up?

“It’s time to grow up!” It’s a common phrase I think a lot of parents say to their teenage sons.

But what does it mean when we say this?

Do you want your son to be more mature? To not cry? Do his homework? Get a job? Become an adult?

If “growing up” to you means becoming an adult, and your son seems to be having a difficult time taking on the matter, then a mentor of some sort would probably be beneficial.

But I also think becoming an adult or “growing up” for your teenage son can mean becoming a man. This is a sensitive and complex topic to millions of young boys and older men.

So, how do you help your son become a man?

If you ask that question to one hundred men you’ll likely get one hundred different answers.

I also think many men are unsure of what it really means to be or “act like a man.” I think part of the reason is because they haven’t had the proper guidance to become the men they want to be or to actually “grow up”.  But, the role of a positive male in your teenage sons life can be a huge influence to the self-construction of him becoming a man.

Without a positive male role model in your sons life might cause him to feel a little lost.
