Tuesday: Boys Soccer Plays in North Division Quarterfinals

Somerville plays Westford Academy at Dilboy Stadium at 6 p.m.

The Somerville High School boys soccer team faces off against Westford Academy Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association's North Division 1 Tournament.

Somerville, which earned the second seed in the tournament with a 16-0-2 record, defeated Billerica on Sunday to move to the quarterfinals. Westford is the 10th seed in the tournament, and it defeated seventh-seed Lowell to make it to the quarterfinals.

"The key's going to be discipline," said George Scarpelli, coach of the Somerville team. He said Westford fields a strong defensive unit, so Somerville will have to "take advantage of the chances we get."

Somerville was knocked out of the tournament last year in the quarterfinals after the game went into sudden-death overtime, Scarpelli said. The team reached the semifinals the previous two years.

Tuesday's game is at 6 p.m. at Dilboy Stadium in Somerville. Scarpelli said hometown support from the school and Somerville community is helpful.

"Go out and vote, and then go watch Somerville win," he said about the Election Day game.

If Somerville makes it past Westford, it would play Methuen or Madison Park in the semifinals.
