Somerville Soccer Falls to Needham

The Somerville High School boys soccer team's stellar season ended Wednesday.

Somerville High School's boys soccer team, having won the Division 1 North Championship, fell to Needham Wednesday in the state championship tournament, according to espn.go.com.

After taking the lead early in the game, held at Manning Field in Lynn, Somerville gave up a goal to Needham in the 25th minute, and then Needham took the lead for good on a penalty shot just before the half, according to ESPN.

Somerville coach George Scarpelli told ESPN, "It was tough when you lose on something like that," in reference to the penalty goal. "It's disheartening," he said.

The game ended a stellar season for Somerville in which, in addition to winning a division championship, they finished with a record of 19-0-3.
